Trump’s upcoming UN speech to highlight Gaza plan progress

United States President Donald Trump will take part in multilateral meetings with Gulf leaders at next week’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), according to Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the UN.

He said Trump’s UN speech would highlight his administration’s efforts to address international conflicts and other issues it considers to have been “neglected” by previous administrations.

He said Trump would discuss the need to ensure Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon, and highlight US actions over the past year, including in the Western Hemisphere, and progress on the administration’s 20-point Gaza peace plan.

Trump is due to meet British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodriguez and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on the sidelines of UNGA on Tuesday, Waltz said.

Israeli air strikes kill at least three people in occupied Palestinian territory

Three Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, according to local hospital sources.

The sources said Israeli troops raided the village of al-Mughayyir in the occupied West Bank.

On Friday, Israeli media reported that security forces were investigating suspected gunfire directed at an Israeli motorist near al-Mughayyir and that the military had set up roadblocks around the village.

Damaged Gaza buildings could collapse in winter, civil defence warns

Palestinian Civil Defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal has warned that buildings damaged during the war could collapse on residents as winter conditions worsen across the enclave.

Basal told Palestine Today television that about half an hour of rainfall had flooded tents, damaged shelters and submerged some streets, with broken sewage pipes causing water to accumulate in several areas.

“We are talking about buildings at risk of collapse and a high probability that they could fall on people, causing casualties and deaths,” he said after inspecting dangerous areas in Gaza City.

Basal said Gaza’s destroyed infrastructure and the lack of resources had left local authorities unable to address the crisis.

The appeal came as children across Gaza returned to school on Saturday for the start of the academic year, many in schools and temporary learning spaces.

The ministry said about half a million students had resumed classes.

Son of Gaza Health Ministry’s director general killed by Israeli fire

The Gaza Health Ministry has said Basir al-Bursh, the son of its Director General Munir al-Bursh, has been killed by Israeli fire in northern Gaza.

The attack took place in the az-Zahra neighbourhood, west of the Jabalia refugee camp.

He is one of the three people we reported killed today in separate Israeli attacks across the Strip.

Palestinian woman and child shot by Israeli forces in central Gaza

A woman and a child have been shot by Israeli forces in the central Gaza Strip, Wafa has reported.

The Palestinian news agency said that the woman was shot east of Al-Maghazi camp, and was subsequently transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, where her condition was described as critical.

The child was injured after the Israeli army fired at Block 6 of Al-Bureij camp, in the central Gaza Strip, Wafa said.

Separately, the news agency reported that several Israeli vehicles had advanced east of the Al-Masdar cemetery in Deir al-Balah, in the central Gaza Strip, and opened fire in the area.

‘Mayhem’ in Gaza City after deadly Israeli strike on vehicle near crowded market

This is a marketplace area in the Sheikh Radwan district, in the northwestern part of Gaza City, it is usually busy at this time of the day with lots of tents and displaced people around this area.

A vehicle was targeted by at least one drone missile. The fire just engulfed the vehicle for at least half an hour until the ambulance, the paramedics, and the civil defence crew had to be called up to put the fire out and bodies be pulled from the vehicle.

Families rushed to the hospital to check on their family members, to check who was in the street at the time, and it just started a whole new mayhem inside the hospital.

The injuries are reported to be not just in the emergency department, but also the operating theatre, as many of them had to be treated from the shrapnel that exploded, and flew at high speed and pierced into the bodies of those injured.

Initial report indicates [one victim was a] humanitarian activist, helping with displacement camps, with bringing food to Palestinians, but the identity is not clear yet and the name hasn’t been released yet.

Gaza death toll rise to almost 74,000 despite ‘ceasefire’

The death toll from Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has risen to 73,910, nearly a year after a so-called “ceasefire” took effect.

The number of injured now stands at 174,914, according to figures published by Gaza’s Health Ministry on Saturday.

Thousands of Palestinians are believed to remain buried under the rubble.

Researchers expect that the death toll from the assault, which is ongoing, will exceed 100,000 once all victims are accounted for.

A study published in November by the German-based Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research estimated that 100,000 people were killed in Gaza during the first two years of the genocide.

Israel launched its siege of the enclave on October 8, 2023.

Hamas says it has held contacts with mediators over Israeli killings in Gaza

Hamas says its political bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya has held intensive contacts with mediators over what it says is Israel’s recent escalation of killings in Gaza and its attacks in the occupied West Bank and at Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement, the group says the killings undermine prospects for calm and, along with restrictions on relief and reconstruction, amount to a failure to honour commitments under Trump’s plan.

Hamas says al-Hayya also wrote to several countries warning of worsening humanitarian risks as winter approaches, and that Israel is blocking heavy machinery needed to clear rubble and secure buildings at risk of collapse, as well as tents and supplies against cold and rain, from entering the Gaza Strip.

The group calls on mediators to press Israel to meet its obligations under the first phase of the ceasefire deal, chiefly halting the killings and allowing rescue and shelter equipment in without restriction.

Israeli colonist attacks and military raids have continued across the occupied West Bank, leaving several Palestinians wounded and at least seven detained. Here are the latest developments, according to Wafa:

• Five Palestinians were lightly wounded after colonists threw stones at their vehicle near Yabrud, east of Ramallah, causing it to overturn.
• An 18-year-old Palestinian girl was wounded by live-fire fragments after colonists opened fire in Aqraba, south of Nablus.
• Colonists also attacked property in Beita and Palestinian families in al-Jiftlik, where one person was wounded.
• Armed colonists attacked farmers in Halhul, north of Hebron, while other groups entered areas near Bethlehem and Ramallah.
• Israeli forces detained seven Palestinians and restricted access to Al-Aqsa Mosque, including for some wheelchair users.

Israeli forces have stormed several towns in the occupied West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem, according to Palestinian media reports.

Fires and smoke in the al-Issawiya neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem were said to be sparked by Israeli forces firing “gas bombs”.

Israeli soldiers also raided the neighborhood of Kafr Aqab in northern occupied East Jerusalem, and stormed the al-Krom area of Aqraba, southeast of Nablus in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian media outlets reported.

Al-Mughayyir village council member Marzouq Abu Naim told the Palestinian news agency Wafa that colonists had entered the Sha’b al-Loz area and fired towards nearby houses.

He said no one was injured and there were no clashes between locals and the colonists.

Abu Naim also said Israeli forces later searched two homes in the village, took up positions on the roof of one property, and detained members of the family for questioning.

Israeli colonists have cut off the water supply to 700 Palestinians in the village of Ad-Daqiqa, in the Yatta desert, south of Hebron, in the occupied West Bank.

Anti-colony activist Osama Makhamra told Palestinian news agency Wafa that colonists, protected by Israeli forces, cut off the supply amid ongoing attacks on nearby villages, hamlets and Bedouin encampments in Masafer Yatta.

Israeli army detains group of women and children on picnic near Bethlehem

The Israeli army detained a number of women in the town of Battir, west of Bethlehem, according to Wafa.

One of the detainees told the Palestinian news agency that the group had travelled from several villages, west of Ramallah, to Battir for a picnic, and that soldiers attacked and detained them upon their arrival near the railway area by Battir Boys Secondary School.

The source said they had been detained since 11am and the group included children and elderly women in need of medical care. Soldiers also detained four young men at the scene, along with the driver of the bus transporting them, she added.

EU urges US to reconsider Palestinian delegation visa denial to attend UNGA

The European Union has urged the US to reconsider its decision to deny entry visas to members of the Palestinian delegation ahead of the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York.

The EU said it regretted that the restrictions had been extended for a second consecutive year, pointing to the US’s obligations as the host country under its agreements with the UN.

The Trump administration imposed similar restrictions last year, preventing Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other officials from travelling to New York for the UNGA.
