Three people have been killed in two Israeli strikes on vehicles on Beirut’s airport highway, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said.

The strikes late Wednesday came after a third day of Israeli bombardments in response to renewed Hezbollah attacks.

Lebanese fear Israeli invasion amid forced displacement orders

The Israeli forces have been holding five points inside Lebanon, north of the Israeli-Lebanese border, and now it seems they are going to be pushing beyond those points and deeper into Lebanese territory.

The Israeli military says it is doing this to create a buffer zone and to push back Hezbollah, which has been firing rockets and drones across the border into Israel in recent days.

And the Israeli justification for this ground incursion is that it has to neutralise that threat. The Israeli military has been issuing various evacuation warnings for people in the south of the country, and in Beirut as well.

The fear among the Lebanese is that whatever the Israeli military is doing in southern Lebanon is not temporary and that it could be a more long-term holding of territory, or something more akin to an invasion.

Three killed in drone attack in southern Lebanon

The Lebanese National News Agency says the drone targeted an attack on the Tyre-Naqoura road, near the town of Qalila.

At least three people were killed, it said.

Israeli air strikes hit southern Lebanon

Lebanon’s National News Agency is reporting an Israeli strike on a house in the al-Shahabiya district of southern Tyre as well as on the southern suburbs of Beirut.

The districts targeted in Beirut include Ghobeiri and Bir al-Abed, the agency said.

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic also reported Israeli air attacks on Nabatieh in the past hour. There were no immediate reports on casualties from those strikes.

Israel has repeatedly bombarded the area of Nabatieh, claiming a strong presence of Hezbollah there. More than 50 people have already been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon since Monday.

Beirut residents firing guns to warn neighbours of incoming Israeli strikes

There was gunfire throughout the night in Lebanon. It’s coming from the southern suburbs of Beirut. It’s a warning to residents there about imminent Israeli strikes.

Normally, these forced evacuation orders come via an Arabic language spokesperson for the Israeli military, and he posts them on X. These warnings come in the middle of the night, and the city’s residents are not usually glued to X in the middle of the night.

So locally, when people become aware of these warnings, they start firing in the air throughout the southern suburbs of Beirut to warn people that the Israeli military has issued an imminent threat to their homes and lives.

This has beent a number of times throughout the evening.

There where also strikes this evening in the southern city of Tyre, and unusually a strike as far as Tripoli, which looks like a targeted assassination, with local sources in a Palestinian refugee camp saying a Hamas official was killed.

Israeli deadline for Iranian officials to leave Lebanon expires

The Israelis gave Iran’s representatives in Lebanon 24 hours to leave the country yesterday. The Iranians seem to believe that this is a threat against their embassy and are threatening any Israeli embassy if their mission is struck.

That deadline has since expired.

It's unclear what will happen.

The Human Rights Watch has called this deeply concerning and said this signals an intent to commit a war crime.

We are not aware of any efforts by the Iranians to evacuate their embassy. And even if they did, they would not be making it public information, unlike the Americans, who do so.

Israeli air defense intercepts drones over western Galilee: Report

Israel’s air defense system has intercepted two drones over the western Galilee region, Israel’s Channel 12 is reporting.

Sirens had earlier been heard in towns in the region, Israeli media reported.

Lebanese state media says Israeli strike kills Hamas official

Lebanon’s National News Agency is reporting that an Israeli strike on a Palestinian refugee camp near Tripoli has killed a Hamas official.

The report said Wassim Atallah al-Ali and his wife were killed when an “enemy drone targeted their home” in Beddawi in a predawn strike. It described the man as a senior Hamas official.

Tens of thousands of people fleeing into Syria

The humanitarian crisis from what has quickly become a regional conflict is growing just as fast as the fighting itself.

Here in Syria, we are seeing more people arriving, women and children, and the elderly. Syrian officials say more than 25,000 people have come through the Jdeidet Yabous and Jousieh border crossings in Homs province over the last two days alone. The influx of refugees continues to grow, especially as the violence in Lebanon intensifies.

As we speak, Israeli air raids are continuing on the southern suburbs of Beirut as well as southern Lebanon, and this is going to push more refugees towards Syria.

UN agencies and Syria’s Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management are on the ground here, providing medical and psychosocial support.

Most of the people we’ve spoken with have been on the road for a day or two, trying to reach the border crossing and actually get into Syrian territory. Officials say they expect these numbers to rise, especially as the violence intensifies in Lebanon. But they say they’re ready to accept anybody fleeing to safety.

Israeli army reissues evacuation threat for southern Lebanon residents

The Israeli army has issued another evacuation threat for residents of southern Lebanon, warning them to “continue evacuating to the north of the Litani River”.

“Anyone present near Hezbollah elements, facilities, or combat means endangers their life,” it said. “Any home used by Hezbollah for military purposes may be subject to targeting.”

Israeli military releases details of Beirut attacks

The military says it has bombed Beirut “a short time ago” and completed a wave of attacks against several Hezbollah command centers.

They included a facility used by its aerial units, the military said, without providing evidence.

Thousands seek safety in Lebanon after Israeli army renews forced evacuation threats

The Israeli army has issued a new threat to residents living south of the Litani River in Lebanon up to the border with Israel.

A similar threat was issued last night. This time, in the statement, the Israeli army spokesperson singled out the southern city of Tyre.

Tyre lies south of the Litani River, but not everyone left the city when the initial threat was issued. That could explain the intense air strikes that targeted the center of Tyre late yesterday, followed by yet another warning for people to leave.

More than 80,000 people have already been displaced in this country.

People are sleeping out in the open, with their cars parked nearby. The available shelters are not enough. Many are from Beirut’s southern suburbs, which have been continuously coming under Israeli fire.

Six killed in Israeli attacks in south Lebanon: State media

Israeli attacks have killed six people, including four members of one family, in villages in southern Lebanon, the state-run National News Agency is reporting.

In a village near Kfar Tebnit, two children and their parents were killed, while another attack in the Nabatieh region killed the mayor of a village and his wife.

Hezbollah wants to make the conflict ‘costly’ for Israel

Hezbollah claims it has attacked Israeli troops inside Lebanese territory, something the Israeli army has acknowledged while confirming that two soldiers were injured.

We now have a front in the south of the country, while here in Beirut, the strikes are widening in scope. Hezbollah insists it will continue fighting.

According to its leader, who delivered his first televised address since the escalation, the group is vowing what he described as an “existential defense”, clearly refusing to surrender.

Hezbollah’s strategy appears to be to make this conflict costly for the Israeli army by firing missiles, rockets and drones across the border, and by making any ground advance into Lebanese territory as costly as possible.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese government is simply too weak to influence the situation. The Lebanese army has been forced to pull back from the border, and the government has taken the unprecedented step of banning Hezbollah’s military wing. However, that is about as far as it can go without risking internal strife in the country.

Yesterday, President Aoun appealed to the US envoy in Beirut, urging him to mediate and intervene to stop the Israeli attacks. There was no immediate comment from the US envoy, who, along with Israel, has been demanding that Hezbollah disarm.

Two more killed by Israeli attack in Lebanon

An Israeli attack targeting a car on a highway near the town of Zahle in eastern Lebanon has killed two people, raising today’s death toll to eight, Lebanon’s National News Agency reports, citing the Health Ministry.

The latest attack also injured two people.

Iran’s energy minister asks public to conserve water, electricity

Iran’s Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi has urged the public to be cautious about their water and electricity consumption as workers rush to repair facilities damaged by US-Israeli attacks.

In comments summarized by Iran’s Mehr news agency, Aliabadi asked people to watch their consumption “so that we can get through this situation without creating serious problems”.

Iranians ‘rallying around flag’ in wake of US, Israeli attacks

Despite calls from Trump for Iranians to “take back their country” from Iran’s leaders, the US and Israeli strikes appeared to be driving many to rally around the flag instead, says a Tehran-based analyst.

Abas Aslani, senior research fellow at the Center for Middle East Strategic Studies, said that, rather than rising on the streets against Iran’s leaders, there had been gatherings in Tehran and other cities “to condemn the aggression and support the political system” amid the ongoing US and Israeli attacks.

“There was a part of society that thought Trump would come to help them because they were unhappy with the economic condition or even the political system,” he said. “But now it is more clear that the US is not … helping them.”

More than 300,000 displaced amid strikes on Lebanon, says Israeli military

The Israeli military says more than 300,000 Lebanese have been displaced amid its ongoing offensive in Lebanon.

Israel’s military has demanded that Lebanese south of the Litani River leave the area.

Its spokesperson specifically called for residents of the Burj al-Barajneh and Hadath neighborhoods to flee eastwards towards Mount Lebanon on the Beirut–Damascus road.

He said residents of the Haret Hreik and Shiyyah neighborhoods should flee to the north towards Tripoli on the Beirut–Tripoli road, as well as to the east towards Mount Lebanon.

Lebanon’s PM wants ‘whatever is necessary’ to prevent IRGC activity in country

Lebanon’s Minister of Information Paul Morcos said Prime Minister Salam told authorities to do “whatever is necessary” to prevent any military or security activity by IRGC members in Lebanon before deporting them.

Speaking after a cabinet session at the Grand Serail, Morcos said Salam also rejected accusations that the government is aligning itself with Israeli demands or implementing “Israeli decisions”.

Israeli evacuation threat for southern Beirut covers area with hundreds of thousands of people

The Israeli military has issued a forced evacuation order for all of the southern suburbs of Beirut. That’s the Dhahiyeh area.

We’re talking about an area, according to the latest estimates, with some 400,000 people. I understand that the Israeli army has never before issued an evacuation order for this area.

There’s been a lot of gunfire in the last 10 minutes or so. That is sort of a warning by the forces in control here to tell people they need to evacuate.

There had already been an Israeli evacuation order in force for southern Lebanon. Bu this, with the incessant noise of an Israeli drone overhead, is bringing the fight that Israel has with Hezbollah much closer to the centre of Beirut.

Hezbollah says missile strikes on Israeli forces near Markaba

Hezbollah says it launched missile attacks on Israeli forces advancing near the southern Lebanese town of Markaba.

In a statement, the group said its fighters targeted Israeli troops at about 12:30pm (10:30 GMT) after observing what it described as an Israeli force moving from the Manara site towards the town.

Hezbollah said two missile strikes hit the forces directly and described the attack as a response to what it called Israeli strikes on Lebanese cities and towns, including Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Gridlock after Israel’s ‘unprecedented’ forced evacuation order on Beirut suburbs

It’s unprecedented that the Israeli army would order this forced evacuation order for the southern suburbs of Beirut, where you can see smoke rising from an air strike much earlier in the day.

The district which is the issue here is a densely packed area of perhaps upwards of 400,000 people – all being told that they need to move out.

There isn’t really anywhere for them to go quickly. There’s gridlock on the roads as people try to move out, but how Israel thinks all of those people are going to leave quickly is difficult to understand.

Already Beirut is filling with people from farther south in Lebanon where Israel has reiterated a forced evacuation order it issued yesterday for people to move north of the Litani River.

That’s a very large area, and already an estimated 84,000 people have been displaced from the south, according to the Lebanese government.

When you add in all the people expected to move from the southern suburbs of Beirut, it’s an extraordinary thing to try to imagine.

Israel says it kills Hamas commander in Tripoli

The Israeli army says it has targeted and killed a Hamas commander, Wasim Attallah Ali, in Lebanon’s northern city of Tripoli.

In a statement on Telegram, the military said navy forces were responsible for killing Ali and accused him of training Hamas fighters. There was no immediate response from Hamas.

As we’ve been reporting, Israel has expanded the scope of its attacks in Lebanon and killed at least 10 people so far today.

Residents under evacuation orders in Beirut’s southern suburbs were earlier told to flee towards Tripoli.

Israeli finance minister warns Beirut suburbs faces devastation like Gaza

Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has warned that all of the southern suburbs of Beirut, home to hundreds of thousands of the city’s poorest residents, will face devastation similar to Gaza after the Israeli military issued forced displacement orders for the entire area.

“Very soon, Dahiyeh will resemble Khan Younis,” Smotrich said, referring to a southern Gaza city that has been heavily damaged during Israel’s genocidal war on the enclave.

“Hezbollah made a mistake, and it will pay a heavy price. We are striking at the head of the octopus in Iran, and at the same time, we will sever Hezbollah’s arm,” he said in a video statement as he visited Israel’s northern border.

Death toll from Israeli strikes in Lebanon surpasses 100 people

Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health has released the latest death and injury figures from Israel’s bombing campaign.

Since Monday, Israeli strikes have killed 102 people and wounded 638, the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The ministry warned that the toll is likely to rise as hospitals receive more wounded people.

Hezbollah says guided missile targeted Israeli soldiers near border

Hezbollah says it targeted Israeli soldiers with a guided missile at the Balat site near the Lebanon border.

In a statement, the group said its fighters fired the missile at about 14:55 GMT (4:55pm local time) after monitoring what it described as a gathering of Israeli troops at the location.

Hezbollah said the strike achieved a “direct hit”.

Lebanon’s president asks Macron to prevent Israel’s mass targeting of Beirut

President Joseph Aoun has asked his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, to intervene and stop Israel’s threatened mass bombing of Dahiyeh, Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Earlier, Israel issued forced displacement orders for the entirety of the southern suburbs, home to hundreds of thousands of people.

A statement from the Lebanese presidency said Aoun also asked Macron “to work to stop the fighting as quickly as possible”.

UNRWA opens shelters as Israeli bombs, threats force people to flee in Lebanon

The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees has warned that escalating violence in Lebanon is forcing more people to flee their homes.

“Yet again, spiraling violence across the region is forcing thousands to flee their homes in southern Lebanon,” Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of UNRWA said.

Lazzarini added that UNRWA had opened emergency shelters as part of broader efforts by Lebanese authorities and civil society groups to assist displaced people, including Palestinian refugees, as well as Lebanese and Syrians.

Thousands cross from Lebanon into Syria as bombing intensifies

As Israeli bombing in Lebanon intensifies, the humanitarian crisis is growing.

In the last few days, thousands of people have been crossing from Lebanon into Syria. The vast majority of them are Syrian.

At one of those border crossings in Homs province, people are entering through the crossing and making their way to offices run by various organizations, including the UN, the Syrian government and NGOs.

Syrian officials are saying that the number of refugees is expected to increase significantly as the bombing intensifies, with fears the conflict could continue for a long time.

France to provide armored vehicles, operational support in Lebanon

French President Emmanuel Macron has agreed to offer support to the Lebanese army as he called on Israel “not to expand the war to Lebanon”.

In a lengthy missive on X, Macron said France would provide “armored transport vehicles, as well as operational and logistical support” to the Lebanese army, and pledged his “full support” to the government.

France is also sending several tonnes of medicines and assistance to the tens of thousands of civilians displaced from the southern part of the country, Macron said, though he did not explain what the assistance would entail.

“Everything must be done to prevent this country, so close to France, from once again being drawn into war,” the president wrote. “The Lebanese have a right to peace and security – like everyone in the Middle East.”

Earlier, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun asked Macron to intervene in Israel’s ongoing bombing campaign.

Hezbollah claims drone attack on Yaara barracks in northern Israel

Hezbollah says it launched a squadron of attack drones at the Yaara barracks in northern Israel this morning.

In a statement, the group said the drones targeted the site at about 04:15 GMT (6:15am local time).

Hezbollah said the attack was carried out in response to Israeli strikes on Lebanese cities and towns, including Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Israel issues forced displacement threat for Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley

Israel’s military has issued an evacuation warning for Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, urging residents to leave the area immediately, as it continues to attack swaths of the country.

In a statement, the Israeli army called on residents of Douris, Brital and Majdaloun to head west via the Zahle–Baalbek road.

The military said it would act against Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and warned that people near the group’s operatives, facilities or weapons were putting themselves at risk.

In a statement, the group said its fighters fired a rocket-propelled grenade at Israeli forces at about 18:05 GMT (8:05pm local time).

Hezbollah says it is attacking Israel in response to continued strikes on Lebanon.

Israeli chief of staff Eyal Zamir turns his attention to Lebanon

Zamir also discussed Lebanon during his televised press conference, saying he had ordered troops to expand the area under Israeli control in the country’s south, as the country’s ongoing operation against Lebanese group Hezbollah intensified.

“We are striking with force, on the front line and deeper in Lebanon. I instructed Israeli army forces to move forward and deepen the line of control along the border, while establishing positions at key points in southern Lebanon,” said Zamir.

Hezbollah claims attacks on Israeli base

Hezbollah says it fired a missile barrage at the Naftali base west of Lake Tiberias, in northern Israel.

In a statement, the group said the attack took place at about 18:45 GMT (8:45pm local time), describing it as a response to what it called Israeli strikes on Lebanese cities and towns, including Beirut’s southern suburbs.

In a separate statement, Hezbollah said it also targeted a gathering of Israeli army vehicles at a site in the town of Markaba in southern Lebanon.

The group said the attack on the vehicles took place at about 15:00 GMT (5:00pm local time).

‘No to war’: Spain’s Sanchez backs Lebanon against Israeli escalation

A five-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy were among four people killed during an Israeli army raid on a house in the town of Mashghara, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health has said.

A woman was also wounded in the attack, the Lebanese National News Agency reported.

Israel previously targeted the Bekaa Valley in January as it pushed for Hezbollah to disarm, with Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee threatening residents in Sohmor and Mashghara and claiming the area contained “Hezbollah infrastructure”.

Lebanon’s death toll rises again

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reports that 123 people have been killed and 683 wounded in Israeli strikes since Monday.

The figure has climbed since just before 16:00 GMT, when the ministry reported the death toll surpassing 100 people.

Displaced twice in four days, families stranded on Beirut’s streets

Hundreds of displaced people gathered in Beirut’s Martyrs’ Square after Israeli evacuation warnings prompted residents to flee the city’s southern suburbs.

Among them was Aliyeh Hijazi, a 66-year-old mother of 10 from southern Lebanon who has been displaced twice in just four days.

Hijazi said she fled her hometown and spent 17 hours on the road trying to reach safety in Sidon, travelling with children who were crying from hunger. After a night in Saadiyat, she briefly found refuge with relatives in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

But when new evacuation warnings were issued on Thursday, she was forced to leave again.

“They said they were going to strike Dahieh, so we left, and here we are sitting in the street,” she said.

Now stranded in central Beirut with her husband and one daughter, she says she does not know where her other children are.

“I have 10 children … each one is staying somewhere different,” she said.

Around them, families sat on the pavement with bags and blankets, uncertain where they would go next.
