New Israeli raids reported in southern suburb of Beirut

Israel has launched at least two more raids targeting the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Israel’s N12 News outlet is also reporting that the Israeli military has launched a new attack on Lebanon, but it did not specify which area of the country was targeted.

Hezbollah issues evacuation warning to Israeli northern settlements

Hezbollah has issued a warning in Hebrew, directing Israeli residents in the north of the country to evacuate all settlements located within 5km (3.1 miles) of the border with Lebanon.

In its statement, the group declared that the aggression of the Israeli army against Lebanese sovereignty and civilians, as well as the destruction of infrastructure and displacement of residents in Lebanon, “will not go unanswered”.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported on Thursday that 123 people have been killed and 683 wounded in Israeli strikes on the country, including the capital Beirut, since Monday.

Hezbollah claims attacks on Haifa port, Israeli forces inside Lebanese territory

The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for a wave of attacks early on Friday targeting Israeli ground forces, including those who have entered Lebanon’s territory in recent days.

In a statement on Telegram, Hezbollah said that its fighters had targeted Israeli forces in several areas, including Maroun al-Ras and Kfar Kila, already within Lebanese territory.

Hezbollah also targeted Israel’s Yoav military camp in the occupied Golan Heights and a navy base in Israel’s Haifa port, the statement said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Earlier, Hezbollah issued an evacuation warning to Israeli settlers living along the disputed border with Lebanon.

Lebanese state media lists towns attacked by Israel overnight

Lebanese state media has published details of the Israeli air attacks that we reported on earlier.

“Enemy warplanes launched nighttime strikes on the towns of Srifa, Aita al-Shaab, Touline, as-Sawana and Majdal Selem,” Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) said, listing locations in the south of the country.

Another Israeli strike targeted the eastern Lebanese town of Douris, NNA reported.

No details on casualties or the extent of the destruction were provided by NNA.

Many of these areas have been the subject of forced evacuation orders by the Israeli military.

What we have also seen in the last couple of hours is a warning issued by Hezbollah in Hebrew on one of its Telegram channels, telling Israeli residents of the northern areas [of Israel], near the Lebanese border, that they need to vacate that area to a depth of 5km (3 miles).

Israel’s attacks on Lebanon bring ‘misery and suffering’: UN

Lebanese civilians are “paying a painfully heavy price” in Israel’s expanded bombing campaign and ground incursions, the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has warned.

The breadth of mass evacuations in suburban Beirut and the Bekaa Valley “makes them very difficult for the population to comply with and therefore brings into question their effectiveness, a requirement under international humanitarian law, and risks amounting to prohibited forced displacement”, spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani wrote in a statement Friday.

Combined with attacks on residential buildings, Israel is “bringing more misery and suffering to an already weary civilian population”.

“We urge the parties to step back from the brink of a major escalation of this conflict in Lebanon,” Shamdasani added.

50,000 Syrians flee Israeli strikes in Lebanon, UN says

NRC warns of ‘humanitarian catastrophe’ amid Israeli evacuation orders in Lebanon

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has called on Israel to immediately “reverse mass evacuation orders” in Lebanon, warning they risk triggering a humanitarian catastrophe as hundreds of thousands flee their homes.

In an email statement sent to Al Jazeera, the rights group said it estimates about 300,000 people have already been displaced in “less than 100 hours” since Israel launched a wave of air strikes on southern Lebanon, the capital Beirut, and other parts of the country.

“Families who had barely begun rebuilding their lives are now forced to flee once again,” said Maureen Philippon, country director for NRC in Lebanon.

“People left their homes in the middle of the night with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. Once again, civilians are paying the highest price. If implemented, the latest evacuation orders from Israel could yet produce a humanitarian crisis unlike anything we have seen in over two years.”

The NRC warned that the number of people forced to flee could exceed 1 million if the orders are fully implemented.

Israel says Hezbollah fired about 70 rockets since midnight

Israel’s military says Hezbollah has fired about 70 rockets towards Israel since midnight.

Military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani said many of the launches came from southern Lebanon.

“After midnight yesterday, around 70 rockets were launched towards the direction of Israel,” Shoshani told journalists.

He claimed that since Israel began striking in Lebanon earlier this week, Israeli forces have hit “more than 500 targets across Lebanon” and killed 70 Hezbollah fighters.

Hezbollah says it launched a drone attack targeting an Israeli military site in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

In a statement, the group said its fighters carried out an aerial attack with a squadron of drones against the Katsafia base at about 3:00pm local time (13:00 GMT) today.

Hezbollah said the attack was carried out in response to Israeli strikes on Lebanon.

Israeli strikes kill 4, wound 13 in Lebanon’s Baalbek: NNA

The state-run National News Agency reports that Israeli attacks in eastern Lebanon have killed four people and wounded 13 more.

Israeli forces struck residential neighborhoods in the Al-Nabi Shayth area, located in Baalbek, NNA said.

A search was under way to move rubble from the streets and find survivors.

Israel claims it hit Hezbollah command centers in Beirut’s Dahiyeh

The Israeli military says its air force has carried out another wave of strikes on targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

In a statement, the army claimed it attacked Hezbollah and Iranian-linked command centers in Dahiyeh.

According to the Israeli military, the targets included a command centre used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Air Force, a command centre used by Hezbollah’s naval unit, a command centre linked to Hezbollah’s financial unit, and a site used by the group’s operating council.

Hezbollah has not commented on these claims.

Israel called for the mass evacuation of Dahiyeh yesterday, displacing hundreds of thousands of residents.

It comes after Israel’s far-right minister Smotrich warned that the Dahiyeh area would soon look “like Khan Younis”, a city in southern Gaza that has been decimated in Israel’s genocidal war against Palestinians in the enclave.

Ghana’s UNIFIL battalion in Lebanon hit with missiles, wounding 2

Missiles have struck the Ghanaian headquarters of its United Nations peacekeeping battalion in southern Lebanon, Ghana’s armed forces say.

The statement did not ascribe blame for the incident.

Two soldiers were critically injured in the attacks that hit around 5:45pm local time (14:45 GMT), the army said in a statement. The officers’ mess hall at the facility was also burned down “completely” in the attacks.

Ghana’s government has formally protested the incident at the UN headquarters in New York.

‘More fronts to open as war likely to continue’

The most likely scenario, from my point of view, is that this [war] is going to continue.

We’re going to see more horizontal conflict. We see the parallel conflict in Lebanon between Hezbollah and Israel. It is another front of this one war.

There will likely be another front as well, probably in Yemen, which is going to open one day. This is how I see the gradual escalation coming from Tehran this time.

I think the Iranians are micromanaging the axis of resistance. They are still in control because they are capable of launching their rockets at the right time, and they are doing so.

They are controlling everything as far as they can. The Lebanese front has opened, and we are seeing Hezbollah fighting.

This is really surprising, given how hard Hezbollah was hit in the last war and the fact that Israel, the Lebanese government, and others were all saying that Hezbollah had been disarmed on the southern side of the Litani River, directly on the border.

Strikes on UNIFIL peacekeeping headquarters ‘unacceptable’

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has warned that strikes on its headquarters in Al Qawzah earlier today may amount to a war crime.

In a statement on social media, UNIFIL said the strikes injured three people, one of whom has been transferred to hospital in Beirut for treatment.

“It is unacceptable that peacekeepers performing Security Council-mandated tasks are targeted,” UNIFIL said, adding that “any attack on UNIFIL peacekeepers constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law”.

As we reported earlier, Ghana’s armed forces said two of their soldiers were critically injured when missiles struck the headquarters.

Neither UNIFIL nor Ghana’s army ascribed blame for the strikes.

Ireland says attack on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon ‘unacceptable’

Ireland’s foreign minister has expressed concern over the worsening security situation in Lebanon and condemned attacks by both Hezbollah and Israel.

In a statement on Friday, Helen McEntee said the deteriorating situation was “extremely worrying” and warned it could set back years of progress in the country.

She also condemned an attack on a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon position, calling it “unacceptable”, and said she had been in contact with the Irish military’s chief of staff.

The minister criticized Hezbollah for attacks on Israel, saying they risked further destabilizing Lebanon.

She also condemned Israel’s “disproportionate response”, citing aerial bombardment, ground operations and evacuation demands affecting civilian populations in southern Lebanon and southern Beirut.

McEntee added that all Irish peacekeepers deployed in southern Lebanon were safe and accounted for.

Macron speaks to Syrian, Lebanese presidents amid fears of war spreading

French President Emmanuel Macron has held phone conversations with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, amid growing fears that the war sparked by US and Israeli attacks on Iran is fast spreading to other parts of the Middle East and beyond.

“France is working with its partners to prevent the conflict from spreading further in the region,” Macron said, in a post on X. “The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria and Lebanon must be respected, as must the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every country in the region. The ongoing acts of destabilization must leave no room for terrorism. France will ensure that this is the case.”

Humanitarian worker describes situation in Lebanon

Mohammad Taleb, a project officer with Islamic Relief Lebanon, has been telling Al Jazeera about the plight of displaced people in Lebanon following Israel’s attacks on the country.

“The situation right now is really painful and challenging for people. Many displaced families are struggling to cope with what is happening right now. They are in a state of shock, fear and confusion; they are traumatised. They are still worried that this will not end anytime soon.”

Taleb said that many people are struggling to find space in shelters due to overcrowding. He described the scene inside a shelter that he visited yesterday.

“The situation is really dire and tough. I witnessed something that I found very heartbreaking, where more than 20 individuals were crammed or overcrowded together in a single small room without electricity or water.”

He has called on the international community to “understand the urgency of the situation” in Lebanon and “provide immediate and long-term support to protect the lives of displaced families along with their dignity.”
