Yemen’s armed forces clash with Houthi fighters in Taiz

Violent clashes are ongoing between the Yemeni armed forces and the Houthi fighters in the Taiz governorate, in the southwest of the country, our colleagues on the ground are reporting.

Earlier, the Yemeni government forces said attacks were repelled in the Maqbanah and al-Kudhah districts, west of the city of Taiz. Also in Taiz, the military said it shot down three drones in the Jabal Habashi district.

Yemen’s internationally recognised government said its forces regained some territory that had fallen to the Houthis.

Yemen leader warns tribes against fighting Iran’s ‘senseless war’

Rashad al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, has called on tribesmen in areas controlled by the Iran-allied Houthi group to stop fighting in the group’s “senseless wars”.

In a statement issued by the Media Centre of the Yemeni Armed Forces, al-Alimi told local tribes not to turn their sons “into fuel for a project that does not serve Yemen”, warning against sending Yemenis “to the fires of death in service of the Iranian regime’s agenda and its destructive project in the region”.

Battles in Yemen’s Taiz and Red Sea areas kill 81 fighters, including 42 Houthis

Battles between Yemen’s Ansar Allah Houthi rebels and Saudi-backed government forces have killed at least 81 fighters from both sides in Red Sea coastal areas near Taiz since Thursday, according to the AFP news agency, citing two military officials and medical sources.

A military official on the Red Sea coast reported 24 of his men killed, while another in the inland Taiz area said 15 had been killed there.

At least 42 Houthi fighters were also killed, according to medical sources in areas under their control, AFP said.

Fighting erupted on Thursday, after the Houthi forces launched a ground assault accompanied by rocket and drone attacks near coastal areas in the Red Sea and around the Taiz region.

Yemeni government forces have lost some ground west of Taiz as clashes with Houthis continue

The heaviest fighting in the Red Sea coast took place mainly in two districts, Al-Barah and Maqbanah, and the clashes lasted all night.

According to the head of operations for the Al Nasr Brigade, Yemeni government forces have lost some ground west of Taiz and the Ansar Allah Houthi movement did manage to gain some of those territories.

There is a main road the government uses to resupply its forces, which are stationed in al-Makha (Mocha) and Taiz, which are under government control. If the Houthis sever this main supply line, it will only embed them more and could perhaps lead to the Yemeni group waging a military campaign to try to take over al-Makha, and this is what many experts believe it’s coming down to.

The clashes mean that the situation will continue to escalate and this is not just happening on one front.

There were also clashes taking place in al-Jawf, after a surprise attack from the government forces.

The Yemeni government waged their own military operation against the Houthis and the armed forces in the 6th military division targeted Houthi gatherings and weapons depots south and north of al-Jawf with rocket launchers, drones and a series of other weapons.

Civilian casualties at Al-Makha restaurant targeted by Houthis, state media reports

Several civilian casualties have been reported after Houthis allegedly targeted a restaurant in the Red Sea port of Al-Makha, according to Yemeni government media.

The official state news agency Saba did not specify how many casualties.

Neither the Houthis nor the government has publicly commented on the alleged attack.

At least 81 combatants from both sides have reportedly been killed since Thursday.

Soldiers “recaptured Al-Khazan Hill in Jabal Habashi district, amidst intensified battles between our forces and the Houthi terrorist militia on the Maqbana and Al-Kadha fronts”, said a statement posted on Facebook.

Intense fighting between the military and Houthi forces began on Thursday along the border between Taiz and Hodeidah.

Yemen’s armed forces shot down a drone operated by the Iran-allied Houthi group over the Maqbanah frontline in Taiz, according to Yemeni government media.

Yemen’s army said reinforcements had arrived at the Maqbanah and Al-Kudhah fronts, west of Taiz, following an escalation in ongoing hostilities.

Yemeni government forces say reclaimed positions west of Taiz, intensify operations against Houthi fighters

Yemeni government forces, backed by local resistance fighters, launched a broad counteroffensive against Houthi positions on the western front of Taiz province, regaining several strategic locations in recent hours as military reinforcements arrived in the area, according to Taiz News Network.

A military source cited by the outlet said forces retook al-Mukahna hill west of the Jabal Habashi district, part of an effort to recover positions lost to Houthi forces on Thursday.

Earlier reports said forces had also regained Naqil Dhi al-Laymah, a vital route to Taiz, and parts of Jabal Nu’man in the same district. Two Houthi attack drones were reportedly shot down near military positions on the al-Barah front west of Taiz.

The outlet said government forces escalated attacks on Houthi positions along the al-Kadha front near al-Ma’afer district, alongside advances toward the al-Zahib and al-Tawir areas of Maqbanah district.

In response, the report said Houthi forces intensified shelling of civilian areas, with hospitals in al-Makha (Mocha) receiving wounded after rocket fire struck a restaurant near al-Mukha junction. Several people remain unaccounted for.

Yemen’s army claims over 15 air attacks against Houthis in Taiz

Yemen’s Saudi-backed government has said that its air force has targeted the sites, gatherings and vehicles of the Houthi fighters on the western coastal fronts in the provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah, in more than 15 air strikes.

Houthi fighters have been clashing with Yemen’s government forces since yesterday.
