Yemen army says 10 Houthi ballistic missiles target Taiz and Hodeidah

Yemen’s military says that 10 Houthi ballistic missiles targeted the provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah on Wednesday.

The military media centre of the internationally recognised government did not provide further details about the damage caused by the Houthi attacks.

Separately, the media center also posted six videos on X purporting to show strikes targeting Houthi fighters and positions in Marib and Al Bayda governorates, though the posts did not detail the exact time or date of the operations.

Yemen’s armed forces say Houthis fired 14 missiles at western coastal regions

The Houthis have launched 10 ballistic missiles targeting the provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah, according to the military media center of Yemen’s Saudi-backed government.

The Army media centre has now provided a new update to the Houthi attacks.

It said the Houthis have fired 14 ballistic missiles and launched drones at populated districts in the western coastal provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah.

A military source told the media centre that air defenses shot down several drones over the Taiz axis and others over the western coast.

The missiles “caused no impact on the combat operations theatre” of troops stationed on the western coast, the source said, praising the high combat readiness and morale of its units.

Government forces also “neutralised sources of threats and hostile fire” in the al-Kudhah sector west of Taiz, the centre says.

Yemen forces report heavy fighting with Houthis on Taiz front

Yemeni government forces say they are engaged in fierce clashes with Houthi fighters on the al-Kadaha front in al-Ma’afer district, southwest of the city of Taiz.

Yemen’s internationally recognized government, now based in Aden, has accused the Houthis of attempting to impose a blockade on the country and halting its oil exports.

The Houthis have accused the government, backed by a Saudi-led international coalition, of doing the same.

Over the past weeks, fighting has intensified in Yemen, with the government reporting carrying out hundreds of military operations against the Houthis. Exchanges of fire and drone attacks have been reported across nearly the entire frozen front line.

The current fighting follows the collapse of a June 18 Memorandum of Understanding aimed at ending the US-Israel war on Iran and reopening the critical Strait of Hormuz. Clashes resumed in July after disagreements emerged over the implementation.

Clashes ongoing between government forces and Houthis on various fronts west of Taiz, Yemen media outlet says

Fighting is continuing between Yemeni government forces and Houthi fighters across several fronts west of Taiz province, with the Houthis attacking and attempting to advance on military positions, according to field sources quoted by Yemeni daily Aden al-Ghad.

The clashes began with Houthi attacks on several sectors on the western Taiz front, including al-Tuwair, al-Kadha, Maqbana, Jabal al-Uwaid and al-Barh, in an attempt to seize positions held by government forces, the sources said.

In the al-Tuwair area, field sources said the attack targeted positions of the government’s al-Nasr Brigade, adding that Houthi fighters managed to advance on some positions before government forces sent reinforcements to try to retake them.

A military source said the fighting later spread to the al-Ahtoub, al-Tuwair, al-Kadha and al-Kuwaicha areas, extending to Jabal Ghabari in al-Wazi’iyah district, with artillery, mortar rounds, drones and light and medium weapons used.

Local sources reported deaths and injuries in the clashes, which have continued since dawn in and around al-Tuwair and Maqbana, without giving a toll or specifying the affiliation of the casualties.

Field sources told Aden al-Ghad that the Houthis are seeking to reach and cut the road linking Taiz to al-Makha (Mocha), aiming to sever Taiz city from the coast, as fighting continued on several fronts west of the province.

Yemen’s army shoots down three Houthi drones in Taiz governorate, state media says

Yemen’s army has shot down three Houthi drones in the Jabal Habashi district in Taiz governorate, the Yemen News Agency (Saba) reported.

The agency also said the army was engaged in fierce clashes with Houthi fighters on the al-Barah front, west of Taiz city.

Yemeni foreign minister discusses regional developments with OIC chief

Yemen’s Foreign Minister, Afrah al-Zuba, has discussed the latest regional developments with the secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.

During their phone call, they also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Yemen and the OIC, said Yemen’s foreign ministry.

Al-Zuba stressed the importance of strengthening the OIC’s role and joint Islamic action in addressing challenges facing member states.

She said restoring state institutions and extending state sovereignty across all of Yemen was key to preventing the country and its territory from being used to threaten neighboring countries or undermine regional peace and security.

The OIC chief reaffirmed the organization's support for the Yemeni government, sovereignty, unity, security and stability.

Houthi militia pushing west of Taiz in Yemen

The Houthis are pushing west of Taiz because their main goal is to sever the strategic road that links the government-controlled city and al-Mukha on the edge of the Red Sea coast.

Controlling that route, the Ansar Allah Houthis would cut off government supply routes. Taiz is a contested region. The Houthis control the outskirts while government forces control the inner city.

This is a clash that will ultimately lead to either the Houthis capturing the city of al-Mukha, as they did in 2017, or it could result in their loss of territory if government forces can maintain control – especially if they’re able to get some type of military backing from Saudi Arabia to neutralise this advancement that started this morning.

Yemeni government forces says Houthi attacks repelled

In a statement, the Yemeni Government Forces said attacks were repelled in the Maqbanah and al-Kudhah districts, west of the city of Taiz.

The military also said it shot down 3 drones in the Jabal Habashi district, also in Taiz.

This news comes amid reports of intense clashes between the Yemeni government forces and the Houthi fighters today.

Earlier, Yemen’s internationally recognised government said its forces regained some territory that had fallen to the Houthis.

Officials say Yemeni government regains some territory in fighting with Houthis

Since early morning, the Houthis have been pushing west of Taiz to reach and sever the road that leads from the city of Taiz to the city of al-Makha [Mocha]. This is a military campaign to seize the road and cut off Yemeni government supplies from the government forces that are stationed in al-Makha.

We have reports from Yemeni government officials that they have regained control of some of the areas that fell under the control of the Ansar Allah Houthis. Most of the clashes are happening in the district of al-Barah and also the Maqbanah front, west of Taiz. According to earlier reports, Ansar Allah Houthis took over these two districts before the government regained control.

Clashes are still taking place. There may be more casualties and fighting in the coming hours and days. If an all-out war breaks out, it could last for many months.

The military offensive we are witnessing today and the fact that the Ansar Allah Houthis were able to seize control over Yemeni government-controlled areas for several hours, according to reports, is an indication that all attempts to establish a ceasefire agreement have failed. This is a scramble by both sides to try to gain territory.
