Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, has accused Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir of openly endorsing the killing of Palestinians in Gaza and planning their expulsion.

Ben-Gvir, in a podcast that surfaced on Sunday, said Israeli forces should “kill 30 or 40” people in Gaza every night and go beyond “those who pose a danger … at that particular moment”.

“This Zionist criminal simultaneously speaks of expelling Palestinians and settlement construction throughout Gaza,” Gharibabadi said in a post on X.

“These confessions must be recorded and preserved for the day of reckoning and the trial of these criminals,” he added.

US lawmaker says Ben-Gvir ‘must resign’ for comments on killings in Gaza

US Senator Jacky Rosen says that Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir “must resign” after he said Israeli forces should “kill 30 or 40” people in Gaza every night and go beyond “those who pose a danger … at that particular moment”.

In a post on X, the Democratic senator urged Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu “to denounce” Ben-Gvir’s calls and said his comments “are horrific and completely indefensible”.

Kushner to meet Netanyahu in a bid to salvage Gaza peace plan

US envoy Jared Kushner will meet Netanyahu today after holding talks with Hamas leaders in Egypt.

The meeting is aimed at reviving a US-backed Gaza peace plan that Israel has so far rejected, but Hamas has endorsed.

Netanyahu insists any settlement must ensure the group is “genuinely disarmed”.

Kushner, who is Trump’s son-in-law, met Hamas’s new leader Khalil al-Hayya in the Egyptian Mediterranean city of el-Alamein on Sunday, according to AFP.

It said he pushed for Hamas to take “concrete, verifiable steps” and relayed a message that “Gaza can never again be a source of terror for Israel”, adding the Palestinian group again voiced its commitment to the plan.

Why Jared Kushner met with Hamas

The US has long designated Hamas as a “terror” group. Yet, President Trump’s son-in-law and mediator Jared Kushner held an unprecedented meeting with Hamas leadership in Cairo on Sunday.

On Monday, Kushner held talks with Benjamin Netanyahu after the Israeli prime minister publicly rejected Trump’s 15-point peace plan for Gaza.

So why is Kushner meeting with Hamas at all?

Analysts say Washington, for one, recognizes that Hamas remains an indispensable actor for any lasting settlement in Gaza.

Kushner, Netanyahu agree on path forward for Gaza, Board of Peace official claims

An unnamed official with the Board of Peace has claimed that an agreement has been reached with Israel to give the Gaza roadmap a chance after “lengthy, in-depth, and very productive”, meeting between Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.

“It is now up to Hamas to show if it is truly willing to fulfill its commitments,” the official said. He was quoted as saying that a deal was achieved after the delegation “agreed with Netanyahu on a way forward in Gaza”.⁠

All Hamas light and heavy weapons, along with tunnels to be dismantled: Board of Peace official

An unnamed Board of Peace official was quoted as saying that under the deal, Israeli forces will not be redeployed or removed from Gaza until Hamas is completely disarmed.

He says the Kushner-led delegation and Netanyahu agreed that “all light and heavy weapons and tunnels will be dismantled so that they cannot be used again” by Hamas.

There is also an understanding that “Israel reserves its full right to self-defense and will act if Hamas resorts to terrorism, violence, or rearms”, according to the unnamed official.

‘Deep and constructive discussions’ with Board of Peace: Netanyahu’s office

Netanyahu’s office has said in a statement on X that the Israeli prime minister and the Board of Peace had “agreed to establish two working groups, one on disarmament and demilitarization of Gaza”, which it claimed both parties “are determined should be prompt and completed before any reconstruction happens in Gaza”.

“A second working group will focus on sanitation, clean water and other public health issues for the people of Gaza, which also impact the people of Israel,” the statement read.

Israel and Board of Peace establish working groups, but challenges remain

The formation of the two working groups looks like a genuine step, particularly when we look at the public health and sanitation working group, which can lead to immediate and practical results, particularly if they have a clear mandate, deadline, and clear mechanisms.

The problem is with the language around the disarmament working group, and the fact that demilitarization must now be completed before reconstruction. This by itself can create an obstacle to moving forward.

Demilitarization and disarmament are a politically and operationally complicated process, and to put this as a pre-condition before moving forward could affect the other working group because there is no guarantee that they can work.

To remind readers, this is the third time we are seeing discussions like this. We’ve gone from the first phase of the ceasefire that hasn’t been completed entirely to talks about moving into phase two, which is on disarmament and withdrawal. It’s the core issue of the agreement which hasn’t been resolved yet.

And while coming up with these two working groups takes us from the broad diplomatic process into an implementation mechanism, key issues haven’t been resolved yet.

Hamas signaled in the past its willingness to move forward but conditioned its disarmament on complete Israeli withdrawal. We’re seeing the Israeli side now linking withdrawal from areas it has occupied over the past months, essentially creating what’s known as the Yellow Line, with immediate disarmament. Israel is also linking these two elements to the start of reconstruction.

Israeli president ‘grateful’ for Kushner, Board of Peace efforts to advance Gaza plan

Israeli President Isaac Herzog says he is grateful for ongoing efforts by the Board of Peace delegation led by US special envoy and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner “to advance to the next stages in Gaza, in accordance with President Trump’s 20-Point Plan”.

Herzog said in a post on X: “I met with U.S. Special Envoy @JaredKushner, Board of Peace High Representative @NMladenov, and their teams at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem today.”

“I was impressed that Israel’s security interests are an important and central element of their plan. I commended and encouraged their efforts to ensure a brighter and more secure future for the people of Israel, the people of Gaza, and the entire region”.

US giving Netanyahu free pass on Gaza plan: Palestinian politician

Mustafa Barghouti, the secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, says the US is letting Netanyahu get away with the murder of Palestinians by giving him a free pass on not fulfilling Israeli commitments towards implementing the Gaza Board of Peace plan.

“Netanyahu is stalling, and he is abusing the whole situation, and he is continuing the bombardment,” Barghouti told Al Jazeera.

“Unfortunately, the Trump administration is not responding to the challenge that Netanyahu put on table. Netanyahu rejected the peace plan. He rejected what was proposed. He rejected what Palestinians accepted and has shown great flexibility towards. And the United States, instead of telling Netanyahu that he has to respect what he has accepted before and start implementing it, they’re giving him leeway,” he said.

Barghouti said US Special Envoy and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner needed to get a lot more out of Netanyahu than he did.

“Now, the pressure is going back to the Palestinian side and reversing and changing even the plan that was approved before,” he added.

US to give Hamas chance after ‘very cordial’ meeting: Kushner

In an interview with Fox news and after he met Hamas leaders in Cairo, Jared Kushner said:

“Our meeting with Hamas was very cordial, and they said all the right things, so we’re going to give them a chance to prove it,” Kushner said. “It will depend on Hamas’ actions and practical steps and I hope they are sincere in that.”

US Special envoy and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner has told Fox News about the progress made during discussions with Israeli PM Netanyahu to move the Gaza peace plan forward.

Kushner said his delegation was able to clarify some misunderstandings and misinformation that had spread about the plan after Israel raised some legitimate concerns.

“If Hamas voluntarily surrenders its weapons and tunnels within the next 60 to 90 days, it will mean the removal of a major security threat, an almost unimaginable achievement,” he told Fox News, adding “this is a win-win situation for Israel”.

He told Fox News that the Gaza Peace Council “will not restrict Israel’s right to defend itself if there are any imminent threats”.

Kushner said if Hamas doesn’t fulfill its commitments now, “everyone will see that it’s not serious about peace, and then Israel will have much greater support from the United States and other countries to move forward and finish the job properly”.

Onus on Hamas after Netanyahu agrees to resume Gaza deal

A Board of Peace official has said that there’s been an agreement with Netanyahu on a number of different factors. First, the Israeli forces will not be redeployed or removed from Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed. Furthermore, what we know is that all light and heavy weapons, as well as tunnels will be dismantled so that they can no longer be used by Hamas.

And if there is a rearming of Hamas, Israel maintains a right to self-defence. So, the reason this is significant is you’ll remember that the initial 15-point plan that was recommended to the Israeli prime minister was rejected several weeks ago and that is what prompted these meetings and what we understand is that Israel has now been more open to some of the suggestions, according to the Board of Peace official.

In terms of the reception prior to Jared Kushner’s meeting with the Israeli prime minister, he did meet with Hamas officials in Cairo and that has been very much criticised by the Israeli prime minister, saying that the Hamas leadership was the architect of the October 7th attacks on Israel. And so this is something that was not well received.

Having said that, there are still other aspects of the roadmap that seem to be leaking out, including that the onus will be on Hamas to fulfill its commitments under this roadmap and that generally the conditions that were put forward by the Israeli forces have been accepted by the US officials. One of them is in regards to that disarming, that those weapons when they’re turned over, they will be handed over to the Palestinian technocratic government and will be overseen by the US Major General Jasper Jeffers.

One other important point is, there will be no redeployment of the Israeli military in Gaza until Gaza is fully free of weapons and Hamas is completely disarmed.

Erdogan, Trump discuss wars in Iran, Gaza

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held a phone conversation with US President Donald Trump, discussing bilateral relations, the wars in Iran and Gaza, and the Mecca joint defence agreement between Turkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the Turkish presidency says.

Erdogan told Trump it was important to continue diplomatic talks with Iran to capitalise on the current opening, and that Turkiye was ready to contribute to that process.

Erdogan also raised Gaza, telling Trump that Israel was attacking Palestinians in the enclave at a time when the second phase of the ceasefire plan was supposed to be taking effect.

Netanyahu not serious on implementing Gaza plan

Marwan Bishara says Netanyahu agreed to resume the implementation of the Gaza peace process to keep appearances.

Bishara says Netanyahu “will give the appearance he’s getting along, but he won’t really go along with the plan”.

“I mean, he’s not going to be able to actually say a flat no to Trump. What he’s going to do, and what he’s done, in fact, is he announced the making of these two committees in order to show that there is some form of progress without really committing to any real movement on the 15-point plan,” Bishara said.

Gaza death toll rises

At least five Palestinians have been killed and 18 injured in new Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip in the past 48 hours, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry.

Israel has killed at least 1,265 people and injured 4,198 in Gaza since the US-brokered “ceasefire” came into effect last October, the ministry said in a statement on Telegram.

Since October 2023, Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has killed at least 73,399 people and injured 174,310, it added.

Situation on the Israeli colonists siege of Palestinian homes in Qusra

Israeli colonists have been surrounding three homes in the occupied West Bank village for a week now, trapping Palestinians living inside.

• The siege began last week when Israeli colonists set up tents outside the three homes in Qusra, trapping about 15 residents, including two children, and cutting off water and electricity to the families.
• The Israeli military has sent more soldiers to the site but has not detained any of the colonists.
• Qusra’s mayor has previously said that Israeli soldiers have been seen praying and socializing with the colonists.
• The trapped families said on Sunday that water and electricity have been restored, but that they have limited access to food and other basic supplies.
• Now, the Israeli army has declared the area a closed military zone, blocking activists from reaching the families, while nine eviction orders against the colonist outpost behind the siege remain unenforced.
• On Sunday, a UNICEF convoy delivered food and medical supplies to the besieged homes, but was blocked from delivering a water tanker, the Wafa news agency reported.

Israeli forces detain nine Palestinians trapped in their home by colonists

Israeli forces have detained nine members of a Palestinian family who were trapped in their home following an Israeli colonist attack, according to the Wafa news agency.

The colonists surrounded the home of Mohammad Thabet Majed Hassoun on the outskirts of Beit Imrin village, northwest of Nablus, on Sunday evening for more than three hours, the agency reported, citing local sources.

Israeli soldiers later raided the area and detained all nine Palestinians who were trapped.

Soldiers also damaged the contents of the house before leaving the area, Wafa added.

The report came as three other Palestinian families remain trapped in their homes in the village of Qusra, south of Nablus, following a siege by Israeli colonists.

The countries which have imposed sanctions over Israeli colonist violence

Several countries have taken (meaningless) action in response to the years-long Israeli colonist violence in the occupied West Bank.

• Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Norway and New Zealand announced new sanctions on Israeli colonists and settlements in the occupied West Bank in June, condemning “horrific levels of colonist violence against Palestinian civilians”.
• French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said the government had banned Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, four leaders of colonist organisations and 21 violent colonists from entering France.
• The UK meanwhile said its package was aimed at disrupting the flows of finance that have “allowed extremist colonist groups to act with impunity” in the occupied West Bank.
• The European Union in May imposed sanctions on colonist organisations Amana, Nachala, Hashomer Yosh, Regavim and some of their leaders – Daniella Weiss, Meir Deutsch and Avichai Suissa.
• Trump meanwhile rescinded sanctions last year that were imposed by his predecessor over colonist violence in the occupied West Bank, including the Amana movement.

Israel issues eviction orders to Palestinians in Jerusalem and Lydd

According to the Wafa news agency, Israeli forces stormed the towns of ash-Shawawra and Za’atra, east of Bethlehem, overnight, without detaining anyone.

In Silwan, a Palestinian neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem, Israeli forces raided the surroundings of a home threatened with forced eviction, Wafa reported, citing the Jerusalem Governorate. It said Israeli authorities had previously issued eviction orders targeting three homes belonging to the Maragha family.

The families have lived in these homes for decades.

Israel has also ordered the eviction of more than 70 Palestinian families in the Israeli city of Lydd, Wafa reported. The families said they have lived in their homes since before the state of Israel was established, and that Israel is now trying to annex their land.

They added that they refuse to leave their homes.

Israeli forces demolish home in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces have demolished a two-storey house in Qalandiya village, Wafa reports.

Wafa, quoting a local activist, said Israeli soldiers raided the al-Bariyat area, surrounded the home of a resident and demolished it, allegedly for lacking a building permit.

The house was home to two families comprising 15 people, Wafa added.

Qusra’s mayor warns of extended Israeli assault as residents remain under siege

Yousef, one of the homeowners in Qusra, told me that he could not see Israeli colonists, but that Israeli soldiers are still occupying his house.

The mayor of the village says that Israeli forces have alerted them that the current assault is going to last until late tomorrow. In the past, that operation was announced to only last until Sunday, but it has been extended.

Today, one of the homeowners, the Palestinian-American Loui Ridi, to make his way into the occupied West Bank through Israeli checkpoints because this is occupied territory. He’s now in Paris; he’s coming here and bringing with him some journalists to try to shed more light on what’s happening here.

It is because we are talking about a house owned by a Palestinian-American that we have seen a lot of coverage related to the story. Also, it prompted the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, to talk about the colonist siege. But these acts are widespread and are being done to Palestinians every single day across the occupied West Bank.

Colonist violence leaves Palestinian families unsafe in their own homes

Nida Ibrahim, a journalist in the occupied West Bank wrote:

"Settler attacks are on the rise. Just yesterday, a doctor was attacked while going back to his home. So the nature of the violence when it comes to Palestinians is not just escalating, but also being emboldened by the fact that the state is doing little to push settlers away. Yes, the settlers are not there at the moment, but they can return and intimidate the families who have been living in fear for the past seven months.

One of the homeowners was telling us that he did not sleep in his own house for the past seven months due to fear of settler attack. He has been sleeping in a car nearby in an effort to alert family members in case of an impending attack.

And we’ve been speaking to Yousef, who has two daughters – they are too scared to leave his side. All the time, they want to be close to their mum and dad because they’re too scared. Yousef has been under siege in his home in Qusra for the past week.

Imagine: this is something that every Palestinian feels right now. You cannot be safe even inside your own home. In general, homes are a synonym for safety and security, and that’s exactly what Palestinians are lacking because settlers do not just attack them while they’re commuting or farming their lands. They also attack them within the sanctity of their homes because they want to push them out of their homes.

The settlers want to push Palestinians out. They want to displace them and they want to replace them."

Happened in the occupied West Bank

• It is now more than a week since the Israeli settlers’ siege of Qusra in the occupied West Bank began. Three Palestinian families in the village remain trapped in their homes. The mayor of the village had been alerted by Israeli forces that the current assault is going to last until late tomorrow.
• Israeli forces have taken control of the town of Shuqba, west of Ramallah, according to local sources, with soldiers deploying in several neighborhoods and unleashing barrages of tear gas canisters, according to the Wafa news agency.
• Wafa also reported that Israeli soldiers had detained two Palestinians from the village of Faqqua, northeast of Jenin, after armed settlers detained them while they were harvesting fruit on their land near a newly established illegal Israeli outpost in the area.
• It was also reported that Israeli forces and police raided the village of Haris, north of Salfit, to secure the entry of Israeli settlers into the area.

UN delivers essential supplies to residents of besieged West Bank village

A team from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has delivered water, food, medicine, hygiene kits, and recreational kits for children to the residents in the village Qusra under siege by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, according to Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN secretary-general.

The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says that three Palestinian families remain surrounded by a heavy presence of Israeli forces and settlers, after Israeli settlement outposts were established near their homes and access to the village was restricted.

Settlers had cut off water pipelines and electricity lines to the houses, which were ultimately restored by municipal workers.

Israeli settlers assaulted municipal workers, and some were detained by Israeli forces.

Meanwhile, Loay Ridi, a US citizen whose family home in Qusra is one of the houses surrounded by settlers, has arrived in Israel to make his way home in the village.

Israeli troops storm rehabilitation hospital in Bethlehem

Israeli forces have stormed the courtyards of the Arab Society for Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, frightening patients and visitors, and assaulting some of them in the hospital courtyard, according to the Wafa news agency.

The report said the Palestinian Health Ministry had condemned in the strongest terms the incident and Israel’s continued violations of the sanctity of hospitals and medical centers, stating that they were protected under international law.

Israeli forces detain 2 Palestinians in occupied West Bank’s Jenin

Israeli forces have detained at least two Palestinians in the occupied West Bank’s Jenin area, the army said on its Telegram channel.

Forces searched approximately 100 buildings in Qabatiya, detaining and interrogating two Palestinians “on suspicion of planning attacks”, the Israeli army said.
