Israeli artillery shells targets in southern Lebanon

Israeli artillery shelling has targeted Wadi al-Hujeir and Wadi al-Salouqi in southern Lebanon overnight and at dawn, Lebanon’s National News Agency has reported.

Explosions were also reported in the town of al-Mansouri, the NNA said.

Israel launches 3 air strikes in southern Lebanon

Israel’s air force has attacked the Nabatieh al-Fawqa municipality in southern Lebanon, according to our correspondent on the ground.

It’s not immediately clear whether there are any casualties.

In March, Israel invaded Lebanon for the second time in less than two years. The first invasion in October 2024 was followed by a near-full Israeli withdrawal, with soldiers remaining in five locations in southern Lebanon.

After the second invasion, however, Israel has said its troops will stay on in southern Lebanon despite promises from US officials that the Israelis do not have territorial ambitions.

Israeli attacks have continued today, with NNA reporting earlier that warplanes have renewed their raids targeting Nabatieh al-Fawqa.

Death toll from Israeli attacks since March 2 rises to 4,383: Lebanese health ministry

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health says that Israeli attacks have killed 4,383 people in Lebanon since March 2, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA).

The updated casualty toll also includes 12,406 people who have been wounded in the attacks, NNA said.

Israel has continued to carry out attacks in parts of southern Lebanon despite a framework deal agreed by Israel and Lebanon in June.

Hezbollah MP in Lebanon says Iran is helping create multipolar world

A Hezbollah lawmaker says Iran is emerging as a major force in helping create a multipolar world after deciding to adopt an aggressive military doctrine.

“Iran today is no longer just defending itself; it is defending all free, oppressed, and honorable people across the world, both governments and populations,” Hassan Ezzeddine said.

“Iran has transitioned from defence to offence, meaning it can strike sites that pose a threat and respond to any planned aggression or crime by America.”

Ezzeddine is a member of the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, Hezbollah’s political force in Parliament.

Analysts, including Trita Parsi of the US-based Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, have told Al Jazeera that Tehran has abandoned its military doctrine of strategic patience and has adopted an aggressive military strategy.

The switch in doctrine was partly motivated by the fact that Iran’s senior leadership views the current war as an existential threat and believes Tehran’s reluctance to respond to attacks in the years before the conflict only emboldened its adversaries.

 

Israel claims it destroyed underground Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon

The Israeli military  claims to have destroyed underground Hezbollah infrastructure at Ali al-Taher ⁠ridge in southern Lebanon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office claimed in a social media post.

Israeli forces will remain in the area and continue attacking the Iran-allied group’s infrastructure to “thwart any attempt by Hezbollah to re-establish itself or rebuild its capabilities,” the statement added.

Defense Minister Israel Katz claimed on Friday that Israeli forces had driven Hezbollah fighters out of a tunnel network ⁠⁠after taking control of the ridge.

Israeli strike destroys family home in southern Lebanon

An Israeli air strike has targeted a house in the area between the villages of Haris and Hadatha, in the Tyre district, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency.

The house, which belonged to a local family, was completely destroyed. It’s unclear if there were casualties.
