Lebanon’s civil defence agency confirms one person has been killed in an Israeli attack on the outskirts of the town of Harouf.

An Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle on the road connecting the towns of Harouf and Zebdine in southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh district, it said.

Israel has stepped up its attacks on Lebanon over the past week killing and wounding dozens of people. Troops still occupy dozens of villages in the south and have refused to withdraw despite a US-brokered truce.

NGO calls for end of Israeli attacks on Lebanon

The Norwegian Refugee Council has demanded an immediate end to Israeli bombardment and urged all “parties to fully comply with international law”.

“For many families in southern Lebanon, returning home is still far from possible,” said Maureen Philippon, its country director in Lebanon. “After months of repeated displacement and destruction, families should not have to keep wondering where they will be safe.”

Highlighting the Israel-Lebanon framework deal, Philippon added, “diplomatic agreements cannot be measured only by a reduction in attacks” and “must translate into real safety, protection, and the possibility for families to return home without fear”.

Lebanon’s Aoun says security vacuum gives Israel a ‘pretext for attacks’

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has held a security meeting, stressing the importance of maintaining the country’s territorial integrity as Israel continues to operate inside a self-declared “security zone” in southern Lebanon.

“Any security vacuum in the south serves as a pretext for attacks and constitutes an infringement on national sovereignty,” Aoun said during a meeting with top military and security officials the presidential palace in Baabda.

He added that “the security of Nabatieh and the areas not under Israeli occupation is an integral part of the security of a unified Lebanon.”

Aoun’s comments come days after residents reported increased Lebanese Army deployments in Nabatieh, one of southern Lebanon’s largest cities. Nabatieh came under intense Israeli attack during the war earlier this year.

They further stated that Israel’s actions threaten “existing understandings and arrangements”.
