Kurdish forces shoot down drone in Iraq’s Sulaimaniyah: Report

Kurdish Peshmerga forces have shot down a drone over the Kurdish area of Sulaimaniyah in northern Iraq amid a series of aerial attacks on the region, according to news outlet Rudaw.

Footage posted by Rudaw on X showed flames and smoke after Kurdish forces fired on an object in the sky.

Late on Saturday, Rudaw also reported loud explosions near the regional Kurdish capital of Erbil, where US forces intercepted a separate drone targeting the city.

Iraqi general says no troops have crossed into Iran

Iraqi Brigadier General Haider al-Kharki says neither Iraqi security forces nor members of the regional Kurdish Peshmerga forces have crossed into Iran since the US-Israel war on the country started.

Al-Kharki, speaking to the Rudaw news channel, said Iraqi security troops have been deployed to the Kurdish region of Sulaimaniyah in Iraq “to further tighten control over the border with Iran”, in coordination with the government of the autonomous region.

Al-Kharki’s statement comes amid rising tensions on the Iran-Iraq border and amid reports that the US has been recruiting the Kurds to foment an uprising against the government in Tehran.

But Trump, who spoke to reporters hours ago, said the US doesn’t want Kurdish groups taking part in the conflict, because “we don’t want to make the war more complex than it already is”.

Iraqi oil output plunges after Strait of Hormuz disruption

Iraq’s oil production from its main southern fields has fallen by about 70 percent to roughly 1.3 million barrels per day because it cannot export crude through the Strait of Hormuz.

Before the conflict, production from the oilfields stood at about 4.3 million barrels per day.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints, through which about 20 percent of global oil supplies pass.

Iran has previously threatened to set ships on fire if they try to pass through the narrow waterway as the US and Israel attack the country.

UK forces engage drone launched towards Iraq

The UK Ministry of Defense says it successfully engaged an attack drone fired from Iran towards Iraq last night.

In a post on X, the ministry added that it plans to send a Merlin helicopter to strengthen its ability to detect aerial threats.

“The engagement occurred as RAF Typhoons and F-35 jets continued to conduct defensive sorties across the region,” it said.

Iran says it attacked ‘spy radar’ in Kurdish region of Iraq

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard says it destroyed what it described as a “spy radar” in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq, near Iran’s western border.

It said the radar system was targeted using a drone.
