Iraqi authorities foil effort to manufacture drones in Baghdad, state media reports

Iraq’s National Security Service arrested three suspects and foiled an attempt to manufacture drones in the capital Baghdad, the state-run Iraqi News Agency has reported.

The agency, citing a statement by the National Security Service, said the suspects were arrested in connection with an attempt to manufacture unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) inside Baghdad.

It did not give further details on the suspects or the intended use of the drones.

The arrests were made days after Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan, discussed developments in the region.

Iraq’s government in Baghdad has pushed to centralise the control of weapons in the hands of the state and disarm the country’s many militias, some of which are aligned with Iran.
