Iran’s Ghalibaf meets chairman of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has met Faiq Zaidan, the chairman of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council in Tehran, according to the Iranian official’s Telegram channel.
The two held discussions on ties between the two countries during Zaidan’s visit, which came days after Ghalibaf’s three-day visit to Iraq.
The neighboring countries have tried to mend fences in recent weeks, following US-Saudi strikes on the bases of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) across Iraq. Riyadh says the attack came after the PMF launched drone attacks against it.

Iraq can play a decisive role in shaping a new regional order, especially in the Gulf, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has reportedly told Iraq’s chief justice.
“A new regional order is being created. The situation is sensitive and historic for Iran and Iraq. The fact that the American coalition forces are going to withdraw from Iraq is a historic honor for the Iraqi government and people,” Ghalibaf told Faiq Zaidan, president of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
Ghalibaf said the US started its war against Iran with “the intention of overthrowing the Islamic Republic and expanding American hegemony in West Asia and the Islamic world”. He said Iran’s resistance “clearly defeated” US war goals.
“America lost the military and political war against Iran, and it will also fail in economic measures,” Ghalibaf told Zaidan.
