Saudi-led coalition intercepts, destroys Houthi ballistic missile targeting Khamis Mushait

The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen says its air defences intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis towards Khamis Mushait in southern Saudi Arabia.

Yemeni army strikes Houthi positions and military vehicles in Taiz

Yemen’s Armed Forces have carried out 13 air strikes targeting the Iran-backed Houthi group in the Taiz governorate, according to Colonel Majid al-Nuzaili, a spokesperson for the Saudi-backed military fighting for the internationally recognised government.

In a post on X, al-Nuzaili said the air strikes hit Houthi reinforcements and military vehicles in al-Ridha, al-Aqrud, Bani Bakar, al-Kadha, Jabal Numan, al-Ajarm and al-Marazim in the governorate.

Yemeni army warns civilians to avoid roads used by Houthis in Taiz

Yemen’s armed forces have warned civilians in Taiz province to avoid roads used by Houthi forces for military movements and supplies until further notice.

In a statement, the military spokesperson said the warning was intended to protect civilians and their property from the risks of military operations, and applied to a number of routes in Taiz and surrounding areas.

The statement also urged residents not to approach Houthi military movements, gatherings or vehicles, and to follow official instructions on road closures and movement.

The army said the measures were precautionary and temporary.

Yemen army says Houthi drones intercepted over Aden

The spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces says air defences intercepted and shot down Houthi explosive drones over the interim capital, Aden, before they could strike civilian areas.

The military said that its forces remain on high alert and are fully prepared to counter any threats targeting civilians and critical infrastructure.

Yemen government forces say they targeted Houthis in Sanaa, Saada and Taiz

Yemen’s military says it targeted Houthi positions in the capital Sanaa, the northwestern province of Saada, and the southwestern province of Taiz.

Army spokesman Majed al-Nuzaili wrote on X that government forces struck “high-value targets in the capital Sanaa,” without providing further details.

He added that the forces also targeted “11 high-value targets in the Saada province,” without outlining the weapons used.

Yemeni military says air force launched 20 air strikes across Taiz

Yemen’s armed forces say they have carried out 20 air attacks targeting Houthi movements, reinforcements and military vehicles across several areas of Taiz province in the past three hours.

A military spokesperson said the operations hit targets in Hamir, Bani Bakari, Samea, al-Aqrud, 60th Street, al-Amour, Midi Bani Hassan and al-Waziya, resulting in a significant loss of equipment and personnel among Houthi forces.

Clashes between Yemeni government forces, Houthis reported north of Taiz

The Taiz Military Axis media centre, part of the Yemeni goverment forces’ communication wing, is reporting “violent clashes” between Houthi and goverment forces north of the city of Taiz.

Fierce fighting raging on Yemen’s northwest frontline

Fierce fighting rages in the northwest frontline, for hours we have been hearing loud explosions resulting from exchanges of artillery shelling. It could be even seen by the naked eye.

On the eastern front, yesterday, heavy artillery and missiles were fired by both sides. It seems that the air strikes carried out by the government forces had subdued reinforcements coming from the north. Thousands of Houthi fighters had been deployed heavily in Taiz.

The Houthis had thrown their full weight into the area, in an attempt to make a breakthrough, even in areas that had never experienced any fighting in the past.

Government forces expanded their strikes onto Taiz, saying they killed many Houthi fighters, destroyed armored vehicles, tanks and missile launchers in Taiz. The government said it also targeted Saada. Field commanders of government forces have said they will widen their strikes.

Fighting sharply intensifies across the Taiz governorate

Fighting has sharply intensified across the Taiz governorate between the Saudi-backed forces fighting on behalf of the internationally recognised government and Yemen’s Iran-allied Houthis, with heavy clashes involving tanks, artillery and machineguns reported on the northern and eastern fronts, alongside battles across the western countryside.

Saudi-backed government aircraft have carried out dozens of strikes across several areas, targeting what government forces say are Houthi positions and reinforcements advancing towards government-held territory.

The latest escalation comes about four weeks into renewed fighting along Taiz’s western coast, where both sides are competing for control of strategic mountain ranges and supply routes linking Taiz, Lahij and Aden.

The internationally recognised government says Houthi fighters are attempting to make a breakthrough and seize key access routes that could bring government positions in Lahij, and the interim capital, Aden, within range.

The fighting has triggered a growing humanitarian crisis, with an estimated 200,000 people displaced towards Taiz, Lahij and Aden as bombardment has intensified over the past three days.

The conflict has also in effect shut down Mocha port, a key maritime outlet for Taiz, disrupting food and medical supplies. This has increased pressure on Aden port, while humanitarian and commercial shipments moving inland remain vulnerable as key roads and supply lines pass through contested areas.

Yemen is heading towards further escalation in the conflict

The Houthis have launched a sweeping new offensive over the past two days along more than 50 lines of contact, and that Yemen is heading toward further escalation according to Taiz based analyst Abdel Wase’ al-Fatiki

He said: “The Houthi group is waging a sweeping, broad assault across a stretch that we can say exceeds 400 km, along more than 50 points or lines of contact between the legitimate government forces and the Houthi group. This indicates that matters are heading toward military escalation.”

He said the assault follows the group’s gains on the western coast, where he said it had overrun Mokha and reached Bab al-Mandab.

“Based on our reading of the scene, up to this moment the political horizon appears blocked, and there are no indicators for the battle to calm down or even head toward any de-escalation.”

Al-Fatiki said the Iran-backed Houthis are pressing their assault in the Taiz countryside to take high ground overlooking Bab al-Mandab and secure their hold on the strait.

  Comment on the condemnations.

It should be reminded that the war in Yemen is inflicted on July 14, 2026, by Saudi Arabia, as it had sent fighter jets into Yemeni airspace to push out an Iranian passenger plane with a Ansarullah delegation on board that was returning from the funeral of Khamenei, and was on its way to land on Sana'a Int. Airport.

The Saudis warned their Yemeni allies who prevented the Iranian plane from landing by bombing the landing strip of the airport. The Houthis responded to the bombardment by firing missiles into Saudi Arabia after accusing the country of being behind the bombardment.

The Iranian plane landed in Houthi controlled Hodeidah.

In a statement, the organization said the attack was part of continued Houthi assaults, calling the targeting of a facility serving one of Islam’s holiest sites a “dangerous provocation” to Muslims around the world.

In statements issued on Thursday, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs alongside counterparts in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, the Arab League and the OIC, categorically rejected attacks on Islamic holy sites, describing the strike on Medina as a “flagrant violation” of Saudi sovereignty.

Turkey also issued a strong condemnation through its Foreign Ministry, saying that Ankara reiterates its firm support for Saudi Arabia. “These provocative attacks, which threaten the sovereignty and security of Saudi Arabia and target the sacred heritage of the Islamic world, must cease immediately and unconditionally,” the Turkish statement said.

Doha affirmed that Saudi Arabia’s security is an integral part of Qatar’s security and the collective security framework of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The Muslim World League similarly backed measures to protect Islamic holy sites.

Egypt has strongly condemned a Houthi attack targeting an electricity station in the Saudi city of Medina, describing it as a “blatant violation” and a dangerous escalation that threatens the kingdom’s security and stability.

In a statement, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said it firmly rejects attempts to undermine Saudi sovereignty and expressed full solidarity with the kingdom and any measures it takes to protect its security and stability.

Cairo added that Saudi Arabia’s security is an “inseparable part” of Arab national security and closely linked to Egypt’s own national security.

Pakistan has strongly condemned the Houthi attack on the Taibah power distribution station in Saudi Arabia’s Medina, denouncing the strike as a “grave provocation” that targets civilian infrastructure supplying electricity to Prophet Muhammad’s Mosque.

In a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, Pakistan stressed that “the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of worshippers and pilgrims must be respected under all circumstances.”

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that an emergency meeting of the strategic political defense committee under the pact between Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia will be held next week.

Dar told reporters in Islamabad that the meeting will focus on Houthi attacks on the kingdom.

The regional powers signed the “Mecca Joint Defense Agreement” in August, weeks before the Houthis launched attacks against Saudi Arabia.

Dar said more than six countries are eager to join the pact, but that it “won’t be possible to entertain new requests to join until the pact is fully operational, which can take up to a year”.

Syria condemns attack on power station in Medina

Syria has condemned “in the strongest terms” an alleged attack by Yemen’s Houthis, on an electricity distribution station in the Saudi city of Medina, describing it as a “flagrant violation” of Saudi sovereignty and international law.

In a statement on Friday, Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said Damascus stands “fully” with Saudi Arabia in “all legitimate measures” to protect its security, stability and territorial integrity.

The ministry also called for an immediate end to attacks targeting civilian sites and holy places.

In a statement, the Houthis denied the allegations, calling them “baseless” and saying they were “gross fabrications”, according to the Houthi-run Saba news agency.

Bahrain strongly condemns attack on Medina power distribution center

Bahrain has strongly condemned an alleged attack by Yemen’s Houthis on an electricity distribution station in Medina.

In a statement released by the Bahraini Shura Council, the attack was described as a flagrant violation of the “sanctity of Islamic holy sites and an assault on the sentiments of Muslims around the world”.

Shura Council representatives also expressed Bahrain’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and supported its right to “safeguard its sovereignty, security and stability”.

The statement added that Saudi Arabia’s security is an “integral part” of Bahrain’s security and stability.

The Houthis have no intention of targeting sacred sites

The Houthi leadership in Sanaa regards Mecca and Medina as sacred and has no intention of striking them, but is seeking to pressure Saudi Arabia economically into a political settlement, says Yemen-based political analyst Anas al-Qadi.

Asked whether political calculations lie behind the group’s denial that it targeted Medina, while it openly claims strikes on Yanbu and Khamis Mushait, he told Al Jazeera: “For the Yemeni armed forces, or the leadership in Sanaa, by their very nature they view Medina and Mecca as sacred. At the same time, they also see these sacred sentiments as an important card in Saudi Arabia’s hand, which it can use to rally the Arab and Islamic community.”

He said the purpose of the Yemeni operations is economic pressure.

“The Yemeni operations in essence aim to apply economic pressure on Saudi Arabia so that it will move a step forward toward a political settlement,” al-Qadi said.

This is the first time that the Houthis respond to the condemnations on the attack on the Madinah power plant .

And, the power plant is not located in the city but some 10 kilometers east of it.

The group said F-15 and Typhoon jets were involved and claimed the latest attacks brought the total number of Saudi strikes since the escalation began to 1,350. The Houthis have not, however, commented on the Yemeni army’s casualty figures.

He said the UK “stands with the internationally recognised Government of Yemen to secure lasting peace”.
