Houthis say Saudi air attacks hit multiple Yemeni governorates

The Houthi-run Al Masirah TV reports that Saudi Arabia’s warplanes are carrying out a series of air strikes across Yemen’s Marib, al-Jawf, and Taiz governorates.

It said five air strikes targeted the Khab wa Sha’af district in al-Jawf, 10 other air attacks targeted areas in the Sirwah district of Marib, and five hit the al-Barh area in Taiz.

In Saada, Al Masirah TV reported that Saudi forces bombed Ghor al-Mishwat in the Ghamr border district.

There was no immediate confirmation of the air attacks from the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

‘Central cause’: Yemen reaffirms unwavering support for besieged Palestine

The Foreign Ministry says Yemen continues to stand by the people of Palestine as they face Israeli attacks and occupation, despite pressure on Yemen from ongoing internal and external conflict.

It described the plight of the Palestinians in war-ravaged Gaza and the Israeli-occupied West Bank as “a central cause of the nation”.

The ministry said “no matter how hard the Saudi enemy tries to mire Yemen in problems, it will not succeed in diverting Yemen’s attention from its central cause” – referring to Israel’s ongoing assault on Palestine – in a statement carried by Yemen’s official news agency.

UN envoy for Yemen says Houthi attacks ‘put civilians at grave risk’

UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg has warned that Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia threaten to expand the scope of the conflict and expose civilians to serious risks.

In a statement posted on X, Grundberg condemned the recent missile and drone attacks launched by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia.

“These attacks threaten to widen the conflict, put civilians at grave risk, and undermine efforts towards a political solution,” he said.

“I call on Ansar Allah [Houthis] to halt these attacks, as well as its attacks inside Yemen, which have also put civilians at grave risk.”

The Houthis on Tuesday launched dozens of ballistic missiles and drones at southern Saudi Arabia, wounding at least 73 civilians and causing fires and temporary disruptions at energy facilities.

Yemen envoy alleges Houthis acting for Iran to attack Red Sea shipping

Yemen’s ambassador to Qatar says it was the Houthis who instigated the latest round of fighting after breaking a years-long truce.

“What we are seeing now is a surprise Houthi offensive to seize strategic ground along the Red Sea in order to allow Iran … to tighten its grip on maritime routes,” Rajeh Hussien Farhan Badi said.

“They want commanding positions to launch more effective strikes on ships and disrupt navigation in the Red Sea.”

Farhan Badi said the internationally recognised government has “simply exercised its right of self-defence” four years after the truce came into effect, with its forces now opening new fronts against the Houthis in al-Jawf, Marib, and al-Bayda.

“We are now facing a real threat that does not stop at Yemen’s borders – it threatens the entire region and the world,” said Farhan Badi. “If the Houthis manage to choke maritime traffic in the Red Sea, we will be looking at another Hormuz in these waters – with potentially even greater impact. The Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb represent a vital artery for global shipping for both energy and food supplies.”

What we have been noticing the past weeks is that events are consecutive developments which have their roots in the Houthi response to the Saudi-backed government's bombardment of Sana'a International Airport to prevent a passenger plane from landing that had a Ansarullah Houthi delegation on board.

The delegation returned from the funeral of Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei. The Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of being behind the bombardment.  In response to the bombardment, they attacked the Saudi side of the border.

US embassy in Yemen says Houthis and Iranians ‘miscalculated’

The US embassy in Yemen says the Houthis and Iran have “miscalculated” the response of the Yemeni government to the offensive launched by the rebel group.

In a social media post, the embassy said, “Houthi actions sparked the current escalation with Iran’s well-documented support.”

“Houthis have brought Yemen nothing but suffering and have made their country a base for the Iranians to undermine Arab unity and security,” the US embassy said.

Seaward offensive by Yemen’s Houthis aims at chokehold on Red Sea shipping

Renewed clashes between the Iran-aligned Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen around the Red Sea coast could decide the fate of the key shipping lane and are a vital front in stepped-up combat between Iran and the US, according to Adam Baron, a fellow with the Future Security Program at the Washington, DC-based think tank New America.

“The fiercest fighting remains around Yemen’s Red Sea coast, which the Houthis are aiming to wrest from the Tareq Saleh-led National Resistance Forces [NRF] in order to clear their path to Bab al-Mandeb itself,” Baron said, referring to the maritime strait that connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, and beyond it, to the Indian Ocean.

“This all certainly has significant ramifications for Yemen’s decade-long conflict. But in the wake of the resumption of hostilities between the US and Iran, the fallout extends far from Yemen itself,” he added.

“If the Houthis continue their march south, they’ll strengthen their ability to effectively shut down Red Sea shipping, a counterpoint to the ongoing blockages of the Strait of Hormuz that underlines the way that the group has emerged as one of Tehran’s most valuable regional allies,” he added.

Saudi-led coalition says Houthis attacked three Saudi cities

The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen says that the Houthis attacked Saudi southwestern cities of Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Jazan with ballistic missiles and drones.

“The Houthi militia continues its heinous attacks on the Kingdom’s national assets and infrastructure,” said the coalition’s spokesman in a statement.

Earlier today, Saudi’s Civil Defence issued warnings alerting the public in Khamis Mushait Governorate and Abha city to potential danger.

Iran ready for dialogue and cooperation with region: Foreign ministry

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has said Tehran is ready for dialogue and cooperation with nations in the region to “foster mutual trust, achieve sustainable security, and promote economic progress”.

Iran believes “security in the Gulf and the Sea of Oman must be ensured through cooperation among littoral states and without the interference of foreign powers”, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry also said that Iran “categorically rejects” claims that it interferes in Yemeni affairs. The Iranian statement pointed to “the insistence of certain Arab League member states on making baseless accusations against Iran rather than focusing on supporting the Palestinian people and confronting the Zionist regime”.

The hostilities in Yemen resurfaced earlier in September when the Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, launched a large-scale offensive against government forces.

Yemen envoy warns of wider war as Houthis threaten Bab al-Mandeb Strait

The war in Yemen is threatening to open a new front as the Iran-allied Houthi rebels try to advance along the Red Sea coast, through the mountain chains of Taiz province, and edge closer to strategic ground that overlooks one of the world’s most vital maritime arteries.

For the internationally recognised Yemeni government, this is an offensive with global consequences.

Yemen’s ambassador to Qatar, Rajeh Badi, a former government spokesman, said on Wednesday, that his government and its armed forces had not violated any truce since 2021.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman says Houthis are independent actors, not proxies of Iran

Iran’s foreign ministry has rejected earlier comments by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who called the Houthis “agents and proxies of the Iranians”.

In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the Houthis are “an independent actor that makes its own decisions; it takes orders from no one and acts as nobody’s proxy.

“The roots of instability in the region lie in US military interventions and hegemonic policies. If Washington genuinely wanted peace, it would take one simple step: end its malign and destabilizing interventions in our region,” he added.
