Successive explosions reported in southern Lebanon

Israeli forces have carried out successive explosions in the southern Lebanese town of al-Mansouri at dawn, targeting residential houses and surrounding valleys, Lebanon’s national news agency reports.

Egypt FM, Lebanon PM discuss regional de-escalation in phone call

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has held a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to discuss regional developments and efforts to de-escalate tensions, Abdelatty said.

“I received a fruitful phone call from Lebanese Prime Minister Dr Nawaf Salam, during which we discussed regional developments and ways to de-escalate tensions,” Abdelatty said in a post on X.

He said he “affirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and stability, as well as our shared commitment to continuing to strengthen the close relations between our two countries”.

Israeli artillery shells al-Mansouri, Beit Yahoun and Aita al-Jabal in south Lebanon

Al-Mansouri in the Tyre district was hit by artillery shelling from the Israeli army, with shells striking the town centre, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency.

Israeli artillery also struck the towns of Beit Yahoun and Aita al-Jabal in the Bint Jbeil district, the agency said.

Fires have broken out in forested areas and damaged several homes in the town of Beit Yahoun in the Bint Jbeil district of southern Lebanon following Israeli shelling earlier today, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported.

Israeli military chief says ‘war not over’ in Lebanon

Israeli military chief Eyal Zamir has said Israeli forces will continue to operate “deep inside” Lebanese territory to counter threats to Israel and push Hezbollah forces further back, despite an April ceasefire.

Visiting Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, Zamir said that the Israeli military has made significant operational gains and weakened Hezbollah but that the Lebanese army needs to significantly improve its military effectiveness if Hezbollah is to be fully ousted from the area south of the Litani River.

The Israeli military “will not allow Hezbollah to rebuild its strength, restore its capabilities or re-establish terror infrastructure in the area,” Zamir said. “The war is not yet over, and challenges still lie ahead.”

This is frankly admitting that Israel will not adhere the framework as reached with Lebanon.
