Israeli forces are shelling the outskirts of the towns of Beit Leef and Sarbin near the Tyre district in southern Lebanon, according to the country’s National News Agency.

NNA also reported that dawn artillery shelling had targeted the towns of al-Mansouri, Majdal Zoun and Beit al-Sayyad.

Israeli forces have maintained a continuous campaign of shelling and air attacks across southern Lebanon, south of the Litani River, for several weeks.

He added: “It’s become routine.”

President Aoun praises efforts to secure release of Lebanese prisoners from Israel

Lebanon’s president has thanked the United States and international parties, including the International Red Cross, for their efforts in securing the release of the first batch of Lebanese prisoners held by Israel.

Joseph Aoun described their release as a “first step” that reaffirmed Lebanon’s unified position and the need to complete all required measures under a tripartite operational framework aimed at restoring full Lebanese sovereignty.

The statement on X came after Israel agreed to free five Lebanese prisoners of war in a US-coordinated goodwill gesture as part of ongoing negotiations between the two sides.

Aoun congratulated the released prisoners and their families and pledged to continue the struggle to achieve all national demands and goals in full.

Lebanon has been seeking the release of 34 documented Lebanese prisoners held by Israel.

He said the ultimate objective was for “all Lebanese to live in dignity in a free homeland, with no weapons on its soil except for their legitimate forces alone, and no sovereignty over its sons except for their protective, guaranteeing, capable and just state”.

US Embassy, Lebanese presidency praise release of Lebanese prisoners by Israel

The US Embassy in Lebanon has welcomed Israel’s release of prisoners under the trilateral track between Beirut and Tel Aviv as a “positive step,” and urged both sides “to continue building on this momentum” ahead of the next round of negotiations.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met US Ambassador to Lebanon Michael Isaac and members of U.S. congressional committees on foreign affairs and armed forces at Baabda Palace on Friday.

Aoun thanked Isaac for his efforts in securing the release of a number of Lebanese detainees held in Israel, and stressed the need to pursue the release of those still held, in line with what was agreed during trilateral talks and as part of the follow-up to a framework agreement process, the presidency said in a statement.

The meeting also touched on US assistance to the Lebanese army and related funding appropriations before the US Congress, according to the statement.

The council warned that explosions may be heard across a broad arc of northern Israel: the Western Galilee, the coastal and inland area running up to the Lebanese border near Nahariya; the Hula Valley, an agricultural basin close to the border town of Metula; the Ramim Ridge, a strategic high point running directly along the border above the valley; and possibly the northern occupied Golan Heights, the plateau bordering both Lebanon and Syria.

The Israeli military says Hezbollah fighters launched a drone this evening towards Israeli forces operating in the “security zone” Israeli troops occupy in southern Lebanon, and that troops from the Commando Brigade shot it down.

In a post on X, the Israeli military called the launch “a blatant violation” by Hezbollah and said it is “now striking in response” in southern Lebanon. It said its forces “will continue to operate in the security zone to remove any threat”.
