US Senator Bernie Sanders strongly condemned the Trump administration’s proposed $2.8bn arms package for Israel, arguing that taxpayers should not fund ongoing military actions in Gaza.
In a statement on X, Sanders said that “the American people are sick and tired of funding Israel’s genocide in Gaza”, adding that President Trump was “doubling down and using OUR taxpayer dollars to give the extremist Netanyahu government $2.8 billion in bombs”.
“Not acceptable,” Sanders wrote, calling on Congress to “reject these agreements”.

Prominent US Senator pledges to block $2.8bn Israel arms package
US Senator Chris Van Hollen has pledged to stop the Trump administration’s proposed $2.8bn arms package for Israel, questioning why American taxpayers are funding military actions amid ongoing violence.
In a post on X, Van Hollen said that the administration is sending “$2.8 BILLION of bombs paid for by YOU, the American taxpayer, to a govt led by a wanted war criminal”.
“All while Netanyahu keeps bombing Gaza & blocks justice for Americans killed on his watch. How is this America First?” he asked, adding that lawmakers “will work to stop it”.

US set to approve 60,000 heavy bombs for Israel
United States President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing to sell 60,000 highly destructive, 2,000-pound (907kg) bombs to Israel in a multibillion-dollar package which will be funded by American taxpayers.
US media has reported that the Trump administration has approved the sale, which features some of the most destructive munitions in Western arsenals, and has informally notified Congress.
This is one of the biggest US munition packages to Israel and comes after nearly three years of genocidal war on Gaza, ongoing pogroms by Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank and a mighty assault on southern Lebanon – which together have killed tens of thousands and displaced millions in the region.
It also comes as the US’s own munitions stockpile has been depleted due to its war on Iran, with the crisis worsened by Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Netanyahu says Israel will topple Iran’s regime, eliminate Hamas and Hezbollah
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will eliminate Hamas, defeat and topple Iran’s regime, and deal with Hezbollah, which he said would also fall.
Speaking at a ceremony for 2025 Shin Bet outstanding personnel at the President’s Residence, Netanyahu also praised the internal security agency’s work.
“In the Gaza Strip, we are witnessing a phenomenon that I think surprises everyone as well,” he said. “We are settling accounts with these murderers who murdered our people, our daughters, our wives and children on October 7th. And we are settling accounts with whoever is left, and there aren’t many left because we are dealing with them.”
“When we say to the terrorists: ‘No one is immune, we will reach all of you,’ you are actually carrying this out in practice.”
Netanyahu said the desire by Iran and its proxies to destroy the State of Israel “has not disappeared, it has simply weakened”.
“We will eliminate Hamas, and we will first and foremost defeat the regime in Iran. We will topple it. It will fall. We will also deal with Hezbollah, and it too will fall.”

Netanyahu says ‘mission must be completed’ in Iran, Lebanon and Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has kicked off his Likud Party’s election campaign by saying he and his party “are the only ones who can guarantee Israel’s security”.
“The mission must be completed; we must bring down the Iranian regime and totally destroy Hezbollah and Hamas,” he said in his speech ahead of the October 27 elections.
Netanyahu went on to list Israeli military operations in Iran, Lebanon, Syria and the Gaza Strip since 2023, accusing his rivals of wanting to make “territorial concessions” and pointing to the presence of Israeli troops in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza as evidence that “we take land instead of giving it”.

UK charities, protest groups condemn Israeli ban threat after sanctions
British charities, Palestinian advocacy organisations and the proscribed Palestine Action group have condemned an official Israeli letter maligning their representatives and activists and recommending they be barred from entering Israel.
The document was issued by Israel’s Ministry for Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism. It recommends border authorities bar employees and activists associated with aid organisations including Oxfam, Islamic Relief Worldwide, Save the Children, Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) and the Norwegian Refugee Council, which receives UK funding, as well as campaign groups including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Friends of Al-Aqsa.
The letter, dated September 8, the day the UK banned imports from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, was previously reported by the BBC and Jerusalem Post.
