Iraqi PM outlines plan to disarm armed groups by June 2027
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi says the country plans to disarm Iran-affiliated armed groups by June.
The groups will be integrated into Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces, al-Zaidi said in an interview with the New York Times.
He added that there will be a 90-day period during which the groups will not launch attacks, with assurances that US forces will not attack them. They will then begin to hand over their weapons.
Any groups operating as militias after the June deadline “will be deemed outlaws”, he added.

Iran has not allowed Iraqi tankers through Hormuz, PM says
Iraq’s Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi says Iran has not allowed Iraqi tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Tehran’s goal is to raise global oil prices.
“This is not about being close to them or not. Regardless, they want to create pressure,” al-Zaidi said.
He added that Iraq lost approximately $60bn in revenues since the war began, as well as 60 percent of its monthly export revenue.
