Iraqi and UAE foreign ministers discuss regional security, Yemen developments in call Iraqi top diplomat Fuad Hussein and his UAE counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, have spoken by phone to discuss bilateral ties and regional security, according to a statement from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry. The two focused on strengthening Iraqi-Gulf cooperation and maintaining stability across the region, while also addressing the latest developments in Yemen. During the conversation, Hussein outlined the foreign policy approach of Iraq’s Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, emphasizing Baghdad’s commitment to prioritizing dialogue and supporting regional calm. Both ministers highlighted the need to resolve regional disputes through peaceful negotiation and avoid further escalation.
France’s Macron meets Iraqi PM al-Zaidi on Hormuz de-escalation French President Emmanuel Macron has hosted Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi in Paris. In a post on X, Macron wrote pursuing stability in the Middle East also involves “defending the interests of the French people”. “Securing our energy supplies by working toward de-escalation and developing alternative routes to the Strait of Hormuz means easing the pressure on pump prices,” he said. “Deepening our defence and security cooperation with our partners means continuing together the relentless fight against terrorism.” Al-Zaidi is slated to head to Germany next.
Iraq will not become launch pad for threats against neighbors: PM Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi says that his government will not allow the country to become a launch pad for attacks against its neighbors. Iraq can help “de-escalate tensions and open avenues for dialogue”, al-Zaidi said in an opinion article published by Le Figaro. Iraqi authorities said on Sunday that security forces have seized a drone-launching platform allegedly used in an attack that struck Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline. The Saudi Foreign Ministry said following the attack that it will allow Iraq the opportunity to take measures to prevent attacks launched from its territory against Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries.
