Iran’s IRGC claims missile, drone attack on US facilities in Iraq
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says its forces have carried out a combined missile and drone attack on US facilities in Erbil province, northern Iraq, in retaliation for a US strike on a wedding celebration in the southern coastal city of Sirik that killed four people including a child.
In a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB, the IRGC claimed the attack destroyed a repair centre and warehouses containing technical equipment, as well as a US surveillance balloon guidance system. It also claimed fuel tanks at the base were set ablaze and a number of US personnel were killed.
There has been no independent confirmation of the IRGC’s claims regarding casualties or damage.

US bases in Iraq’s Erbil hit with missiles, drones, Iran says
Iran’s IRGC says it struck US military sites with missiles and drones in Erbil in Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region.
The IRGC said it “carried out a coordinated missile and drone attack” that destroyed a maintenance centre, warehouses, and the “guidance system of a US surveillance aerostat”, according to a statement carried by state-run IRNA news agency.
The Iraqi Kurdish counterterrorism agency said coalition forces downed 10 explosive-laden drones in the airspace of Erbil province between 1:13am and 3:31am local time, without causing casualties.
Drone attacks have previously repeatedly hit Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish region, which is also home to a major US consulate complex.

Iran-backed armed group leader threatens US troops stationed in Iraq
Akram al-Kaabi, head of the Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, an Iranian-backed paramilitary group in Iraq, has threatened US troops stationed in the country and given them a deadline to withdraw.
“If an American soldier remains in Iraq after September 30, we will not allow them to return home safely, and only their bodies will be taken out of Iraq,” al-Kaabi said in a statement, according to Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB.
The group, also known as the 12th Brigade, is believed to be part of the Iraq-based Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a coalition of armed movements close to Iran. In 2019, the US designated the group and its leader as “terrorists”.
