Iraqi Kurdistan PM Barzani claims Iranian drones targeted his office, calls it ‘reckless’
Masrour Barzani, the prime minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government in northern Iraq, says Iranian drones targeted his personal office and the home of the head of the Kurdistan security and intelligence agency.
“Following an investigation by the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Unit, my personal office and the home of the head of the Security and Intelligence Agency were targeted by Iranian drone attacks earlier today,” he said in a post on X.
Barzani condemned the attacks as “reckless and unacceptable”.
He called the strikes a “dangerous escalation” and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdish region, adding that the attacks would not deter authorities from carrying out their duties and protecting residents.
For the last five months or so, Iraq’s Kurdish region has suffered the impact and ramifications of the ongoing United States-Israel war on Iran.
Since the outbreak of the war in February, hundreds of missiles and drones have hit the Kurdish region.

In a phone conversation, Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein has discussed with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi Monday’s drone strikes on the offices of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Erbil.
A statement from Iraq’s Foreign Ministry said Hussein asked for clarification of Iran’s official position on the attack on the residence and personal office of KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, saying the attack “will have negative repercussions on Iraq’s security and the stability of the region”.
Araghchi “expressed his surprise at the occurrence of such an attack, explaining that he does not have information that the attacks were launched from Iranian territory”, according to the statement.
It said Araghchi stressed “that there is no justification for such actions, in light of the positive and strong relations between the Iranian government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, especially with the two main parties in the region”.
On Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the drone attack on Barzani’s residence, saying “the attack is a highly suspicious development that requires a vigilant and precise response”.

Iran’s FM says ‘nothing justifies’ attack on Iraq’s Kurdish region
Earlier, the office of the prime minister of Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government and the home of the head of the semi-autonomous Iraqi region’s security and intelligence agency were the targets of a drone attack.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has now commented on the incident on X, stating “nothing justifies the reckless attack”.
“Kurdish friends should be vigilant against false-flag ploys to sow discord between neighbors,” he said, adding “we protected our Kurdish friends against [the former president of Iraq] Saddam [Hussein] and DAESH [ISIL/ISIS], and we’re thankful for security they’ve provided on our border”.
