Iraqi oil minister says oil exports down by 75% amid Strait of Hormuz blockade

Iraqi Oil Minister Bassem Mohammed Khudair says exports of oil through the Strait of Hormuz have decreased by 75 percent since the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Khudair told a news conference that before the war, Iraq used to export about “3.4 million barrels per day”, stressing the need to “find future solutions to diversify export outlets”.

Currently, he said, Iraq “produces 2.7 million barrels per day and exports 1.5 to 1.7 million barrels”.

He added that there was dialogue with Iran to allow the export of Iraqi oil through the strait but it was not active yet.

“We reject any attacks on oil companies in Iraq and have agreed to provide compensation if they suffer damages,” he said.

PM of Iraq’s Kurdistan says his region does not want to be part of ‘any conflict’

Masrour Barzani, the prime minister of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, says no party has pressured the Iraqi Kurds to engage in the US-Israeli war on Iran, and they do not want to be a “party to any conflict in the region”.

Barzani told our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic that his people support the Iraqi government in restricting weapons for regular forces only and said that all they want is to “protect the Kurdistan region and keep it away from any conflict”.

“The Kurdistan region has been subjected to more than a thousand missile and drone attacks. The attacks on the region came directly from Iran or from within Iraq through some militias,” the prime minister said.

He added that they had no relations with Israel and foreign policy was the “prerogative of the federal government”.

“There have been no American soldiers at Harir Air Base for 10 years,” he said.
