Iraq shipped 30 million barrels of oil via Hormuz in past month

Iraq exported more than 30 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz between July 4 and August 4, about 29 percent of its pre-war monthly average, AFP reports.

Before the war, Iraq exported an average of 105 million barrels per month through the strait, mostly from its southern terminals near Basra.

Ali Nizar, head of Iraq’s state oil marketer SOMO, estimated that between 35.5 million and 37 million barrels passed through the strait in July. He said another 7 million barrels were exported through the Iraq-Turkiye pipeline to Ceyhan.

Iraq has also transported some crude by tanker trucks through Syria, while plans for a pipeline to Syria’s Baniyas port remain under study.

US ends IRGC-related sanctions on Iraqi airline, aircraft

The US has lifted “counterterrorism” sanctions on at least one airline and several aircraft it says have ties to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) , according to details posted to the US Treasury Department’s website. It named one of the airlines as Fly Baghdad.

The US also removed sanctions on two Iraqi individuals it said have ties to the IRGC, or the previously sanctioned airline, according to the US Treasury.

Iraq’s governing coalition warns armed groups face ‘terrorism’ law after deadline

Iraq’s governing State Administration Coalition has backed continued efforts to bring all weapons under state control and prevent attacks on neighbouring states from taking place inside the country.

In a statement issued by the prime minister’s media office, the coalition said using weapons without state authorisation or forming armed groups outside the official security forces was a constitutional violation.

“Anyone who threatens the country’s security will be considered an outlaw who must be confronted,” it said.

The coalition also condemned attacks against Iraqi armed forces and called for adherence to the timetable for bringing weapons under state control by September 30, 2026.

It said any armed activity outside the state’s authority after the deadline would be dealt with under Iraq’s anti-terrorism law.
