Renewed fighting in Yemen’s Taiz displaces nearly 1,800 families in two days
Renewed fighting in southwest Yemen has forced nearly 1,800 families from their homes in under 48 hours, according to an update by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Shelling along front lines in Taiz governorate’s Maqbanah and Jabal Habashi districts emptied entire displacement sites. Most residents moved within the two districts, while others have fled to neighbouring areas.
Aid agencies pointed out that some households remain trapped on the front lines and require safe passage. The displaced are arriving with acute shortages of food and shelter materials.
Aid organisations warned that relief efforts face severe obstructions. Telecommunications networks remain disrupted, and emergency stocks are “severely depleted”, leaving agencies with “limited capacity” to meet needs.

Houthis seek to expand Red Sea control in fresh fighting
The fierce clashes [in Yemen] are taking place in western Taiz and southern Hodeidah. The aim seems to be by the Houthis to push towards Bab al-Mandeb, and gain territories towards the city and Red Sea port city of al-Makha (Mocha).
What they seek to do, according to experts, is to take control of the strategic areas alongside the Red Sea coastline, which starts with gaining ground in southern Hodeidah and gaining ground west of Taiz.
According to military officials from the internationally recognised government, the Houthis have been able to take some of those territories. In western Taiz, they’ve managed to take over a strategic military base, which is settled on top of a strategic mountain and gives the Houthis an overview of the entire area.
According to Yemeni military officials, reinforcements are on the way. The goal here for government forces is not so much to gain territory, but to recapture the areas that have fallen under the control of the Houthis.

Four civilians killed, nine injured in Houthi missile attack south of Taiz, says government media
Four civilians have been killed and nine others injured as a result of a Houthi missile attack on the Heijah al-Abd road south of Taiz,
according to Yemen’s government-affiliated Saba TV.
Saba TV said it received the information from local and medical sources.

Yemen clashes kill more than 60 people from both sides on Saturday, military sources say
More than 60 people have died in clashes on Saturday between the forces of Yemen’s internationally recognised government and the Houthis.
According to three separate Yemeni military sources, 26 government troops and 31 Houthis have been killed over several hours of battles in the country’s southwest, AFP reported.
A Yemeni health source also told the French news agency that the death toll from a Houthi missile attack on a road in Yemen’s Taiz governorate earlier today now stands at six – an increase on the four reported by government-aligned sources earlier today.

Yemeni military says Houthi drone downed
The air defenses of Yemen’s Saudi-backed government have shot down a Houthi drone, according to a social media post by the Yemeni army media.
The drone was downed east of Al-Hazm city, the centre of Al-Jawf governorate, said the Media Center of the Armed Forces. It was reportedly a quad copter-style drone designed to drop explosives from height.
Their use has proliferated rapidly in Yemen and both sides have released video showing their attack drones bombing fighters, vehicles and hideouts.
