Israel damages more than 80 percent of Gaza buildings during genocidal war, study finds
More than 80 percent of all buildings in the besieged Gaza Strip have been damaged by Israeli forces since the genocidal war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS).
“According to the latest satellite-based assessment conducted by the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT), around 201,290 buildings were damaged as a result of the Israeli occupation aggression against the Gaza Strip between October 7, 2023, and June 16, 2026,” the PCBS said in a statement issued to mark World Habitat Day and Arab Housing Day.
The bureau said this represents an estimated 82 percent of the total number of buildings in the Gaza Strip. Out of the total, 134,422 buildings were destroyed, and 13,848 buildings sustained severe damage, it said, adding that the number of damaged housing units stood at 328,627.
The occupied West Bank also has suffered extensive destruction at the hands of Israeli forces. “In Jenin Refugee Camp, the total number of damaged structures reached 680, representing approximately 53 percent,” the PCBS said.
“In Nur Shams Refugee Camp, 434 structures were damaged, accounting for 55 percent of the total structures, while in Tulkarm Refugee Camp, 407 structures were damaged, representing approximately 37 percent of the total structures, as of February 2026.”

MSF warns Israel ‘progressively’ suffocating Gaza amid ongoing genocide
“Israel is progressively asphyxiating Gaza and continuing its genocide”, as continued violence, deliberate blockades on essential supplies, and the destruction of vital infrastructure systematically erase the conditions needed to survive, according to Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF.
“In June and July alone, despite a so-called ceasefire, MSF teams treated more than 1,200 cases of violent trauma across Gaza, including blast injuries, burns, gunshot wounds and injuries resulting from physical assault,” the NGO said in a statement.
MSF also said that over the past year, “the physical trapping of people in Gaza” has become solidified through the establishment of Israel’s “Yellow Line“.
The demarcation line marks where the Israeli army withdrew to under the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire that came into effect in October last year.
“The yellow line cannot be treated simply as a line on a map,” said Amande Bazerolle, MSF head of emergency response in Gaza. “It has become a mechanism of encirclement and ethnic cleansing, while cutting communities off from the infrastructure, healthcare, water and other essentials they need to survive.”

Smotrich says work has begun to develop ‘Herod’s Pools’ on stolen Palestinian land
Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich says work has begun to develop a park around a pool on privately owned Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank.
The Jordan Valley site belongs to Palestinian farmer Saad Nemer. But in June, Israeli colonists seized his irrigation pipeline and diverted the water to fill the ancient pool, cutting off supplies for his crops. Soon after, they advertised the site as an Israeli tourist attraction, claiming the pool dates to the biblical-era Jewish king Herod.
Smotrich then pledged 3 million shekels ($1m) to develop “Herod’s Pools”.
In a post on X, the minister said the work, which began on Sunday, was “for the purpose of preservation and accessibility to the public”.
“The Settlement Revolution continues!” he added.
Nemer, the Palestinian farmer, is unable to access the site.
Israel’s far-right government has overseen major construction of illegal colonies, which Smotrich says is aimed at burying the idea of a Palestinian state. Colonist pogroms against Palestinians have also risen, with the UN documenting more than 1,600 attacks this year, an average of 6.7 a day, up from five a day in 2025.
