One killed in Israeli shelling near Gaza’s Khan Younis area
A Palestinian has been killed during Israeli shelling northwest of Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip, a source at Nasser Medical Complex reported.
It was the third deadly attack on the war-battered territory today by Israeli forces despite a year-old “ceasefire”.
Palestinians in Gaza have reported a surge in Israeli fire and air strikes across the enclave over the past month.
Nearly a year after the so-called truce in Gaza – which was meant to start a process of reconstruction under a technocratic government along with a political process that would lead to an eventual full Israeli withdrawal – little has changed.
Israeli forces still hold more than 60 percent of the territory and conduct almost daily strikes.

Deadly Israeli attacks on Gaza with heavy gunfire, drone and artillery strikes
Based on available information, the targeted individual killed inside a vehicle was traveling between displacement camps for the delivery of much-needed aid including hot meals.
Nine other people in the vicinity were wounded when the drone strike hit the vehicle traveling in Deir el-Balah city. These were people who happened to be walking on the sidewalk or crossing the road. Some of the victims are in critical condition.
The status of the medical services is very low because of insufficient supplies and a lack of staff. In many cases, these injuries are treatable but the dearth of medical supplies makes it extremely difficult for doctors to save lives.
Another Palestinian did not survive wounds sustained a couple of days ago in the southern city of Khan Younis. He was hit by shrapnel in the abdomen in a drone strike.
Artillery fire and heavy machineguns have been heard since the early morning from the eastern part of Gaza City. Displacement camps – it doesn’t matter the time of day – are constantly targeted by Israeli quad copters or live-fire, stoking panic and fear.

".. stoking panic and fear."
Unlike in the US State Department's dictionary, it's the non-politicized definition of terror.

Palestinian children released from Israeli detention emerge ‘destroyed’
Ayed Abu Eqtaish, the director of the SEYAJ Organization for Child Protection, says psychological “resources are very limited” for Palestinian children arrested by the Israeli military.
More than 350 Palestinian minors are held in Israeli detention centers or military prisons. About half are arrested without charge.
“It’s a terrifying experience to be arrested, interrogated and ill-treated and incarcerated inside Israeli prisons,” Eqtaish said. “So almost every child who is arrested by the Israeli military will be psychologically affected.”
The “needs are huge,” he said, but the “resources are very limited”.
Eqtaish said the treatment of Palestinians in Israeli prisons has significantly worsened since October 2023, with children released from detention coming out “destroyed”.
He cited a fellow psychologist who had said that “before October 2023, our role was to let children step on the ground”, but now, “our role is to extract them from beneath the ground”.
“I believe that every child is in need for psychological support, but there is no program in order to meet these needs,” he added.

Egypt sends critical aid to Gaza in Red Crescent convoy
Egypt has sent another aid convoy to the war-ravaged Gaza Strip carrying more than 3,185 tons of humanitarian supplies.
The Egyptian Red Crescent said the convoy dispatched early on Sunday included fuel for hospitals, food, medical supplies and other vital goods to the Strip, Ahram Online reported.
The aid convoy is part of the Egyptian Red Crescent’s Zad el-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza initiative. The organization serves as Egypt’s national mechanism for coordinating humanitarian aid deliveries to Palestinians in Gaza.
The dispatch comes as the World Health Organization said on Friday that no hospital in Gaza is fully functioning, largely because of chronic shortages of fuel, medicine and other life-saving supplies.
Reinhilde Van De Weerdt, a WHO representative, said medical supplies awaiting Israeli clearance face an average approval time of 74 days. Critical equipment, such as X-ray machines, is frequently delayed or rejected.

Gaza health facilities face critical lab equipment shortage
Medical sources in Gaza are warning that thousands of Palestinian patients are at risk because of shortages of laboratory equipment crucial for health diagnostics.
Sources told the Wafa news agency that medical labs face “catastrophic” conditions and are lacking critical equipment, particularly chemical analysis machines.
About 52 percent of laboratory equipment has been completely destroyed in Israeli attacks over the past three years of its genocidal war.
The remaining equipment is worn out and frequently malfunctions, while medics don’t have access to spare parts. Modern equipment needs immediate entry into the Strip to help diagnose and treat Gaza’s many patients.

Israel has killed more than 800 Palestinian teachers since October 2023
More than 800 Palestinian teachers have been killed and over 3,300 wounded since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023, the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education says.
In a statement ahead of World Teachers’ Day, observed annually on October 5, the ministry said Palestinian educators are waging “a genuine struggle” to uphold the right to education “under the most severe conditions of aggression and systematic targeting”.
The ministry said more than 170 teachers remain detained “under harsh conditions”, adding that Israel’s continued withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues has caused severe economic hardship that has hurt teachers’ financial and psychological well-being.
The ministry praised teachers in Gaza for continuing to teach despite bombardment and displacement, saying they turned tents and displacement centers into classrooms.

Israel orders closure of all West Bank and Gaza crossings from October 5-7
Israel is closing all crossings in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip from October 5 to 7, coinciding with the third anniversary of the Hamas-led October 7 attack.
Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the move, saying the West Bank closure would be comprehensive based on military and security assessments. Essential medical staff and healthcare workers will continue to be allowed to cross.
In a security alert on Sunday, the US embassy in West Jerusalem said it was informed that West Bank checkpoints will be closed on October 5 and 7, meaning no regular entry into Israel except for strictly medical and humanitarian reasons.

Attacks in occupied West Bank in an upward curve
More than 15 people wounded and one person killed in attacks by Israeli forces or settlers on Palestinian villages and towns.
According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, a Palestinian man died after he was detained and abused by Israeli forces near the Enab checkpoint, east of the city of Tulkarem in the northern West Bank, at midday.
As he was passing through the checkpoint, Israeli soldiers stopped him, took his ID and detained and assaulted him. It was later announced that he had suffered a heart attack. He was taken to hospital, where his death was officially announced.
The Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission said that more than 62,000 attacks have been carried out against Palestinians from October 7, 2023, until the end of September. That means the escalation in the West Bank is on an upward curve as a result of these attacks, particularly with the start of the olive harvest season.
