Hamas marks anniversary of October 7 attacks, says Israel failed to end the group
Hamas says the October 7, 2023 attacks were a “historic milestone” in the Palestinian people’s struggle.
In a statement on its official Telegram channel, the group said Al-Aqsa Flood, the name given to the operation, was the result of decades of Israeli occupation, its siege and attacks. It said Israel failed to eliminate Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups despite its genocidal war on Gaza.
Hamas said nearly 1,500 Palestinians have been killed and more than 5,000 wounded since the “ceasefire” in Gaza about a year ago.
The group said it remains committed to carrying out its obligations under the “ceasefire” agreement and is working with mediators to ensure its success. It held the US administration and the guarantor mediators responsible for compelling Israel to meet its commitments and implement the roadmap.
Hamas called on the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice to pursue Israeli officials responsible for crimes in Gaza. It also urged Arab and Islamic states and the international community to step up pressure to end the war and support Palestinians.
It said it is working to build a unified Palestinian national strategy to confront the Israeli government’s plans. It also reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and to an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Iran vows continued support for Hamas on October 7 anniversary
The armed forces chief of staff says the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel by Hamas fighters accelerated its decline, pledging Iran will continue to back what he called the “resistance front”.
Major-General Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya central headquarters, made the remarks in a message marking the third anniversary of the Hamas-led attack, according to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.
The deadly assault and mass kidnapping of Israelis “upset the calculations of the resistance front’s enemies” and turned its “defensive strategy into an offensive strategy for the legitimate defence of the Palestinian people”.
Abdollahi said the “epic deeds” of slain leaders – including Qassem Soleimani, Hassan Nasrallah, Ismail Haniyeh, and Yahya Sinwar – “will continue and will determine the end of the occupying regime”.
The policies of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his successor, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, on Palestine and the resistance front will continue “until the liberation of holy Jerusalem”, he added.

US lawmakers demand release of Palestinian healthcare workers detained by Israel
US Congressman Chuy Garcia and five other Democratic lawmakers have called for the immediate release of detained Palestinian healthcare workers, including Dr Hussam Abu Safia.
In a post on X, Garcia accused Israel of “systematically” destroying the Palestinian health system, saying at least 1,700 doctors, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare workers had been killed and dozens of hospitals destroyed.
Garcia, along with Representatives Delia Ramirez, Rashida Tlaib, Summer Lee, Ilhan Omar and Pramila Jayapal, said in a joint statement that hundreds of Palestinian healthcare workers had been arrested and arbitrarily detained, including at least 16 physicians.
“We demand the immediate release of Dr. Abu Safia and all other arbitrarily detained healthcare workers and Palestinian prisoners,” they said.
The lawmakers also called for an end to US arms transfers to Israel, including a proposed $2.8bn bomb sale, and urged Congress to pass the Block the Bombs Act.
