In southern Lebanon, Shia villages lie in ruins as Christian towns struggle in neutrality Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon has reshaped the region, with the military extensively destroying predominantly Shia villages it views as Hezbollah’s support base. Nearby Christian villages have been told they will be spared the same demolition policy if they remain neutral in the conflict, but life there is still far from normal. In Marjayoun district, residents describe a paralyzed economy. A journey from Beirut that once took about 90 minutes now takes over three hours because of the occupation. Families in nearby Qlayaa describe nightly explosions shaking their homes, shattering windows and keeping children from school, along with water, electricity and healthcare shortages. Residents say they need major assistance to keep living there.
Israeli military bombs multiple municipalities in southern Lebanon The Israeli military has been shelling the municipalities of Mansouri and Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon’s Tyre district, reported the country’s National News Agency. The agency also reported that the Israeli forces targeted Wadi Hassan, a valley on the outskirts of Majdal Zoun, with artillery shelling. The report added that Israeli forces also bombed the municipalities of Barashit and Haddatha in the Bint Jbeil district of the Nabatieh Governorate after midnight local time. The agency also reported that Israeli warplanes were flying at low altitude over the city of Tyre and nearby towns and villages in the district.

Khiam, a stronghold of Hezbollah, is strategically located and is seen as a gateway to southern Lebanon.
