Massive explosion reported in south Lebanon

Lebanon’s National News Agency is reporting that a massive explosion rocked the town of al-Khiam in the Nabatieh governorate, sending shockwaves throughout the south.

Israeli attack in southern Lebanon causes power outage

An Israeli air attack on al-Khiam in southern Lebanon overnight has damaged power supply lines and caused a complete power outage in the Nabaa el-Hamas area, Lebanon’s National News Agency reports.

The agency had earlier reported a huge explosion in al-Khiam, located in the Nabatieh Governorate, which sent shockwaves throughout the south.

Israeli artillery shelling reported in the Bint Jbeil district of Lebanon’s Barashit

The Lebanese National News Agency says the outskirts of the southern town of Barashit, in the Bint Jbeil district, have been hit by Israeli artillery fire.

Displaced people fear Israeli demolitions will erase their villages in southern Lebanon

Displaced people in southern Lebanon say Israeli demolitions on their land are erasing their past and their future.

They fear there will be nothing to return to as Israeli forces blow up their homes, water wells and even hospitals in their villages, despite a framework deal between Israel and Lebanon signed in June aimed at achieving a ceasefire.

Israeli air strikes target southern Lebanon

Two Israeli air strikes have targeted the vicinity of Qantara town and the Wadi al-Salouqi area in southern Lebanon, our team on the ground is reporting.

Lebanon concerned about UNIFIL withdrawal repercussions, says Lebanese FM

Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji says the country is concerned about the repercussions of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon’s (UNIFIL) withdrawal from the southern parts.

Rajji said during a meeting with his Irish counterpart, Helen McEntee, that Lebanon is committed to “an international presence in the south”, according to a Lebanese foreign ministry statement.

The head of UNIFIL said on Saturday that it was critical to ensure other UN agencies and Lebanese troops could assume the tasks carried out by the force before it begins withdrawing at the end of 2026.

Israel has been occupying parts of southern Lebanon since war broke out in March between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

A US-brokered framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon plans a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the Lebanese army in areas vacated by Israeli forces.

Lebanese PM demands immediate global aid for displaced families in south

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has called for international support for the humanitarian crisis in the south, saying the response can no longer wait.

Speaking at a high-level dialogue on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Salam said the situation is “particularly urgent in the south”. He said that supporting the return of families driven out by Israeli attacks and threats, restoring basic services and livelihoods, and advancing reconstruction “cannot be postponed until the current crisis is considered over”.

“For Lebanon, moving beyond [the] crisis means confronting these questions now,” Salam said.
