Golan Heights will remain Syrian territory, says President al-Sharaa
Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa says the occupied Golan Heights will remain Syrian territory.
Israel has been occupying the Golan Heights since the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and annexed the territory in 1981.
“Any attempts that violate our sovereignty, violate international law, will be stopped,” al-Sharaa said in his UN General Assembly address.
He added that “Israel is launching attacks against Syria,” adding that despite repeated “aggressions” by Israel, “the opportunity for peace and security is available to those who wish to live in peace.”
Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz responded to al-Sharaa’s remarks, saying in a video statement that “the Golan under Israeli sovereignty is an inseparable part of the State of Israel forever.”
