Images of sealed-off checkpoints in West Bank used by Israeli politicians to lobby for election
From Nida Ibrahim:
Israeli authorities need no real reason to seal off checkpoints to prevent Palestinians from moving from one place to another in the occupied West Bank. And this is just another example: The Ein Synia checkpoint has been closed over the past week. Israeli forces also do a lot of checks at the checkpoint near the illegal Israeli settlement of Beit El, which causes major traffic jams around that area.
Some checkpoints are reopening, including the Yabrud-Silwad road checkpoint, northeast of Ramallah. The Israeli forces stationed in Ramallah sometimes close them to exert collective punishment and other times because they are raiding the town and to continue disrupting Palestinians’ lives.
All of this is happening before Israel’s elections. All these images help Israeli politicians lobby and get more votes because they can show that they are trying to enhance security for Israelis, that they are cracking down on what the Israelis call “Palestinian terror”.
Palestinians here say that even if one attack were to happen, the Israelis would seal off the whole area to remind Palestinians that if anyone tries to resist Israel’s military occupation, then everyone in the vicinity will pay a heavy price.
