Lebanon’s Aoun tells EU’s Kallas that ‘Israel refuses to implement’ agreement provisions
Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has told European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas that “negotiation is an alternative to war and agreement is the only means to end the state of hostility between Lebanon and Israel”.
Speaking with Kallas in Beirut, Aoun’s office said that the president noted that the Lebanese army “is fully performing its duty in the areas where it is deployed south of the Litani in implementation of the ‘Framework Agreement,’ while Israel still refuses to implement its provisions”.
Aoun stressed the “interconnection between Lebanon’s stability and the stability of Europe and the region”.
Aoun’s office said that Kallas assured him that the European Union “is ready to provide the necessary assistance to Lebanon, especially to the army, the Internal Security Forces and the entities concerned with social and humanitarian aspects”.
While a fragile ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel brought the most expansive fighting with Iran-backed Hezbollah to a halt, Israeli violations of it and occupation of southern Lebanon continue.

How stubborn is the Lebanese president?
The Israelis, including Netanyahu, have repeatedly said that they will not leave Gaza, Syria AND Lebanon.

Israeli army says one soldier killed, three wounded in south Lebanon
The Israeli army says that one soldier was killed and three others were slightly wounded in southern Lebanon following an “operational incident”.
“Captain Eliav Haim Tzapalamus, aged 21, from Haifa, a combat officer in the 603rd Battalion, 7th Brigade, fell in combat in southern Lebanon,” the army said.
“We are all mourning the fall of Captain Eliav Haim Tzapalamus and praying for the recovery of three additional soldiers who were wounded in the severe accident in southern Lebanon,” Netanyahu said in a post on X.
Israeli media reported that a vehicle carrying the soldiers rolled over.
The Israeli military has occupied a swath of territory in southern Lebanon since invading the country in March.
